Call for Applications  

 

Applications are invited from local Music Education Partnerships to apply to Music Generation for funding to help children and young people access vocal and instrumental tuition in their local area. A total fund of €1.8million is available in Round 2. Music Education Partnerships are eligible to apply for 50% funding, up to a maximum of €200,000 per year over three years. The closing date for Round 2 applications is 5 p.m., Thursday, November 3rd, 2011. Detailed guidelines and all application details are available on www.musicgeneration.ie.

 

Music Generation will provide three-year seed funding to establish local services, which will be sustained by Music Education Partnerships on a long-term basis. It is the intention of the Department of Education & Skills that Music Education Partnerships will be continued into the future with Exchequer funding when the Music Generation donations cease.

mgmayo3. Co-ordinators Music Generation Louth, Sligo and Mayo Announced 

 

Music Generation is delighted to announce the appointment of Co-ordinators for Music Generation Louth, Mayo and Sligo: Gemma Murray (Louth), Kate Mc Keon (Mayo) and Jessica Fuller (Sligo). All three Co-ordinators will take up their positions at the beginning of September.

 

Gemma Murray is a music graduate from Queens University Belfast, and holds a Masters degree in Business Administration and a Post Graduate Diploma in Cultural Management, both from the University of Ulster. Gemma joins the staff of Co. Louth VEC as Co-ordinator for Music Generation Louth from the National Chamber Choir of Ireland where she has been working as Acting CEO.

She has worked in the area of arts administration and management for nearly 20 years, previously holding several key positions within the music sector in Ireland, both north and south. Gemma also is qualified in the area of early-years music and in recent years has combined music teaching alongside her freelance work in arts management and consultancy.

 

Kate McKeon is a native of Co. Mayo. She holds an M.Phil in Music & Media Technologies from Trinity College Dublin as well as a National Diploma in Film & Television Studies. Having begun her career in Sound Production for animation and TV, she has since worked and developed skills in the areas of photography, video editing and music performance. She has extensive teaching experience and joins the Music Generation network from her current post at the Linenhall Arts Centre where she has spent the past two years facilitating educational workshops as part of the Visual Arts Programme for schools.

 

Jessica Fuller has worked in music education and management in the arts sector, the music industry, new media, film and television sectors for over twenty years. As Director of the IRMA Trust, she established a range of national music education programmes and a national instrument library. She has worked directly, and in partnership, with The Irish Recorded Music Association (IRMA) Trust, The Arts Council, The Music Board of Ireland, Music Network, the Department of Arts, Heritage & the Gaeltacht, Culture Ireland, and a range of Local Authority arts services and arts agents. She is founding director of still point, which established platformireland.ie, an online arts channel and in 2010 she produced the first ever live webcast of opera in Ireland. Jessica is co-director of music publishing company Artunity Ltd. and is also a qualified and experienced piano teacher.

Northern Ireland Opera's 'The Festival of Voice', in association with TOSINI (Teachers of Singing in Ireland), presents a conference for singing teachers entitled Exploring the Art, Science and Mystery of Vocal Teaching at all Levels. This event will take place on Saturday September 24th, 9.30am-5pm, in the Grand Opera House Belfast, and will be of tremendous use to voice teachers, department heads, choir directors, speech and language therapists, and singers.  The programme for the day offers a wide and varied look at the job of a singing teacher from student profiles, the first lesson, repertoire, complimentary disciplines and vocal style to setting up a private teaching studio. RIAM6. RIAM Diploma in Group & Community Teaching - Call for Expressions of Interest 

 

In response to Music Generation, the Royal Irish Academy of Music is proud to present its first Diploma in Group and Community Teaching. This programme is set to begin in September 2012 and will be taught over 6 weekends throughout the year.

 

This Diploma is open to musicians from any musical background that have proficiency in their genre and a commitment to developing their skills further in a community and group setting. No grades or degrees are required to participate on this course. Musicians will be taught a range of instruments, project management, pre-instrumental skills, conducting and arranging, instrument maintenance and more. musiceducators8. Music Educators Orchestra - Free Open Day  

 

The new Music Educators Orchestra is holding a free Open Day from 1-4pm on Sunday 11th September in St. Patrick's College Drumcondra. The Open Day is an opportunity for musicians and music educators to experience orchestral playing in a relaxed and creative environment. It will involve playing pieces to suit all instruments and all abilities as well as composing your own piece of music with the full orchestra. A short performance at the end of the day will be recorded and a copy will be sent to each player.

 

The Music Educators Orchestra is new group that is open to people from all musical backgrounds, of all abilities, and on any instrument. The goal of the orchestra is to provide a creative outlet for people working in music education and related fields. It offers members the opportunity to keep up their musical skills, develop new ones and to bring new ideas to their work. nationalchoral9. National Choral Singing Week/World Mental Health Week/RT�'s Big Music Week  8-16 October   

The 2011 National Choral Singing Week will take place between 8 - 16 October and the Association of Irish Choirs invites all choirs to join in by organising your own very unique event to promote and recognise the positive health benefits of choral singing.        

 

This year, National Choral Singing Week coincides with RT�'s Big Music Week.  As part of Big Music Week, the RT� Philharmonic Choir and RT� C�r na n�g will be taking part in Carmina Burana in the National Concert Hall on Friday 14th October with the RT� NSO, conducted by Gerhard Markson.  Look out for interviews on RT� lyric fm's Lunchtime Classics during which members of RT� Philharmonic Choir will talk about the physical and emotional benefits of choral singing.
