Documentary Film Shorts Competition

We are challenging film students at member campuses to  create a 5-20 minute documentary short that tells a story of students, faculty or staff making deep community impact through their engagement. Two winning entries will be featured at the Compact's November 2-3, 2012, CSNAP student conferenceto be held at UNC Wilmington. Competition film reviewers will facilitate a workshop during the conference that encourages filmmaking students to use their craft to further community engagement.

We ask your assistance in recruiting your students to submit their entries by October 8.  For more information, review the website. Sponsored in part by EUE Screen Gems, reviewers include outstanding documentary producers and professors in North Carolina.  Not only will students have opportunity to demonstrate their skill, but they will be able to help tell the story of your campus' community engagement, providing your campus with a promotional piece that can garner greater support for that work.

Prizes include $1,000 in two categories - undergraduate and graduate submissions - as well as a free conference registration, and conversation with the reviewer.  Three additional films will each have the chance to be selected as the "People's Pick" award winner.

ALL undergraduate and graduate students at member campuses are invited to apply - they do not have to be film students!  If you have any questions, don't hesitate to contact Lisa Keyne at lkeyne@elon.edu

NC Campuses Against Hunger:  A Call to Action to End Hunger in Our Lifetime

October 10-11, 2012 at Elon University, Elon, NC

Stop Hunger Now , NC State's  Center for Student Leadership, Ethics & Public Service, and NC Campus Compact invite North Carolina higher education institutions committed to impacting hunger to gather for 2 days of learning, resourcing and inspiration.  Working together, we hope we can use individual and collective strengths and resources of North Carolina campuses to address the systemic causes of hunger.  Campuses will be challenged to consider single initiatives or a full campus approach to alleviate hunger (e.g., research, teaching, engagement, common reading) - leave with a plan!

Identify a team of up to 10 that will commit to thinking deeply about how your campus might prioritize the addressing of hunger-related issues, inviting other campus and community members into strategies and tasks that will make a deep impact. Teams could include administrators, faculty, staff, students and community partners that can influence and build support back home.

Registration opens August 15, 2012.

NC Campus Compact Launches Campus Election Engagement Project - NC

NC Campus Compact is pleased to lead the Campus Election    Engagement Project (CEEP) effort in North Carolina. CEEP is a nonpartisan effort to help colleges and universities involve students in the election, working primarily through the state affiliates of Campus Compact and other partners like Youth Service America.

We invite you to visit the NC project website.  It will serve as a resource hub to connect campuses to resources, ideas and best practices for engaging students in the election.  Please share any election-related news or activities from your campus with Leslie (lgarvin@elon.edu) so she can post it on the website.
