HAMBURGERS & HEROINE

BACON, SAUSAGE & CHEESE STEAK, ANYONE?
Maybe you love it.... but so do the rats! And what I mean by that are the lab rats... that are being fed junk food.... only to discover that increased fatty foods & sugar leads to increased dopamine in brain.

That means eating junk food turned on animals feel good chemicals... illustrating that junk food acted similarly to addictive drugs on the brain! Following a Scripps Research Institute Study, researchers are likening hamburgers to heroine and questioning if quitting the sugar habit could be as tough as quitting the drug habit! (Sound vaguely familiar?? Ever felt like once you start eating junk food... you need more... "once you pop... you can't stop")!

In this study, rats that were consistently fed junk foods were willing to undergo electric shocks to get to the sweets. And then, when later given more healthful foods, refused to eat at all and starved themselves rather than eat the healthier foods!

Can you imagine what is in this junk food that can create such an addiction?!!

Almond Milk & AlmondsEASY ALMOND MILK
So Simple & So Delicious!!    
(no addictive additives here)

Dairy is often avoided on a cleanse as it is a more congesting food.  Almond Milk can be a great alternative. (Don't worry, there are others if you're allergic to nuts).

EQUIPMENT
* Blender
* Nut bag (optional, but makes for smooth milk. worth the $10 investment...especially for the name :)

INGREDIENTS
* 1 cup almonds (soaked in bowl of H20 overnight - will become 2 cups)
* approx 6 cups of water
* optional: 2 - 4 medium dates
* optional: 1 tsp pure vanilla extract.

1. Once the almonds have soaked, strain them and put into blender.
2. Add all ingredients to blender... blend until it looks milky.
3. Place nut bag over large mouthed bowl. Pour milk through bag. Squeeze liguid into bowl, discarding almond residue. (can be saved for other recipes as well).
4. Store in a glass container in the fridge- keeps for about 4 days.

Enjoy in smoothies for extra zing on a cleanse, or enjoy with your breakfast.
