Greetings!
Autumn (which I prefer over the term 'fall') is my favorite season. Not only because of the cooler weather, but as a recovering professional student (I even taught high school and community college in a former career path) this change of season always makes me think of back-to-school. I easily transfer this pleasant (to me) experience to my present situation and (as maladjusted as this may sound) actually look foward to grabbing a cup of coffee and sittling in front of the computer to crank out specs for a living. How about you?
"Summer makes me drowsy. Autumn makes me sing. Winter's pretty lousy, but I hate Spring." - Dorothy Parker

WINDS OF CHANGE
Vision for the Southwest Region FY2013
David A. Bishton, RA, CSI, CCS, CCCA,
Southwest Region President
I want to start out by thanking the members of the Southwest Region for allowing me to serve as your president. As I have gotten to know more and more members from Region chapters throughout the years, my appreciation for your talent and commitment has grown. Every year each chapter has many hard-working volunteers that care deeply and give of their personal and professional time for the good of CSI and their local organization. Our award winning newsletter Southwest Breezes, our website http://southwest.csinet.org, and our yearly conference have strived to reinforce our common efforts, knowledge base, and professional camaraderie here in the southwest USA. It has meant a lot to me!

WHAT HAPPENED TO THE ARCHITECT?
by Sheldon Wolfe, FCSI, CCS
We started this series of articles with a question - What happened to the master builder? - and went on to talk about how the architect no longer is the master builder of old, for a couple of reasons. First, the continual increase in construction products, methods, and computer technology makes it virtually impossible for any one person to know all there is to know about construction, or even a significant part of it, and, more important, there was a conscious effort to divorce architects from hands-on experience and technical knowledge. Finally, as we will see, architects themselves have, through contract documents, reduced their importance, at the same time increasing the importance of the contractor.

SOUTHWEST REGION CONFERENCE 2012 - THANKS, TUCSON
...As is normal and despite the presenter's best efforts to manage the agenda, some of the most valuable learning of the day was simply in the meeting and sharing one-to-one of practical experience. Past, incoming, and future presidents benefit so much by hearing directly from their peers. In response to this annual benefit expressed many times at the conference, Dave's goal as FY2013 Region President is to use the vast communications tools available to continue a Virtual Year-Round Conference that connects chapter leaders at all levels with their peers. When we convene in Denver in May 2013...

NON-TRADITIONAL COMMITTEE CHAIRS NEEDED - WHY?
NO
- Not to impart vast wisdom & experience to eager Southwest Region chapter leaders (although if it happened that Chapter leaders got eager, that would be very cool).
- Not to write mandatory 300 word articles...
