 Greetings!

Although I don't believe in making resolutions (there are enough pressures in life), the new year is a milestone that serves as a time of reflection and perspective. Whatever your goals may be, this can be a time to look back on past successes (and failures) and aspire to even greater accomplishments. Good Luck!

As always, I look forward to hearing from you any time and on any subject at dfurry@arcomnet.com.

The CSI Knowledge Base - Pass It On
David Bishton, RA, CSI, CCS, CCCA, Vice President Southwest Region

I am delighted to see more of CSI, and CSI expertise, displayed in many new venues these days. A myriad of new media opportunities are being used for passing on knowledge, which is the very core aspect that first attracted me to CSI when I was newly entering the world of architecture and construction. Then it was primarily the organized meetings, seminars, product shows, etc. that met my needs. The Specifier was like a monthly seminar you could do on your own time, along with another very excellent program...

 New Ventures in Uncertain Times
by Greg Markling, FCSI, AIA, CCS, CCCA, LEED AP
Institute President-Elect

With all of the challenges that are on my road ahead in CSI, m aking the giant leap from "dream" to "reality" in a new career venture has been an interesting experience thus far, to say the least. I have long had the dream of launching a consulting firm that would integrate 35+ years of design and construction experience with my skill sets and passions, but had yet to make that ultimate decision to pull the proverbial "trigger" on that dream. I have recently done so, and do not intend to look back.

The main theme of the 2012 conference will be Renewable & Alternative Forms of Energy. We will also explore related issues such as energy efficiency / thermal efficiency, and building green. A second portion of the conference will be dedicated to working in the Government Sector. A third portion of the program will focus on the Code, and other Health & Safety issues. Nearly all programs will be eligible for CEU's. |

HOW DOES SPEC WRITING WO RK? - LIGHTNING QUICK DOCUMENTS
David Bishton, RA, CSI, CCS, CCCA

We have the technology, we have the financial incentive, we have the basic instinct of "why should I put any more thought into this than absolutely necessary?" What does that all mean? It means "copy and paste" is the preferred manner of not only writing specifications, but also assembling construction drawings, writing contracts - heck, even constructing buildings when we can manage it ...
