This week's Please Note comes from St. John's Episcopal Church, Charlotte, where an Acolyte and Verger Festival was held last weekend. Meet vergers from several congregations across the Diocese.

Diocesan History Day to Take Place May 5thFeature  


Join the History & Archives Committee, the School of Ministry and the Historic Properties Commission at St. Stephen's, Oxford, on May 5, to celebrate the history of the colonial church in North Carolina during "Making the Common Holy: The Church & the World in Southern Colonial Anglicanism." The Rev. Dr. Lauren Winner will keynote on the material culture of colonial Anglicanism in Virginia in the morning, and, during the afternoon, participants will visit St. John's, Williamsboro, the oldest frame church in North Carolina.

Ordination to the Priesthood
 
The Rev. Martha Carol Brimm will be ordained to the priesthood at 11:00am on April 28 at St. Joseph's in Durham, NC, by the Rt. Rev. Michael B. Curry.

Outreach Spotlight  EFwM Receives Service AwardOutreach

On April 20, 2012, the Episcopal Farmworker Ministry received the APPLES Service-Learning Award in honor of Ned Brooks, from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill.  
Grace Hatcher, President, and Leslie Parkins, Director, of UNC APPLES, say, "... In particular, EFwM has engaged in a sustained partnership with APPLES alternative break programs for several years, enriching the education and experience of hundreds of Carolina students, while making a substantial impact on the lives of farmworkers and their families."

27-28 - Diocese of East Carolina's 3rd Annual Acolyte Festival, St. Andrew's By-the-Sea, Nags Head. Highlights include an "Olympic" competition, a Bishop's "Beach" Ball and a performance by the band Sloan River Project. Download the registration form here.       

 

28 - Dining for Friends, 4:00pm-Dusk, All Saints', Greensboro. All Saints welcomes everyone to an evening of home-cooked barbeque, live music and great company held in support of Triad Health Project's work with those living with HIV/AIDS,  

 

29 - Svyati: Music for Cello and Organ, 5:00pm, Good Shepherd, Rocky Mount. Internationally acclaimed British duo Svyati, Rebecca Hewes (cello) and Julian Collings (organ), will present a concert of works by Bach, Bruch, Jongen and Rheinberger on Good Shepherd Sunday. The concert is free and open to the public.

4-6 - Province IV Environmental Ministry Environmental Retreat, University of the South, Sewanee. Transfiguration of Christ and Creation: A Ministry of Wholeness is a retreat designed to provide theological insight, restful reflection and practical advice for those involved in environmental ministry.    

 

6 - People of Faith in a Divisive Era: Jimmy Creech to Speak, 9:30am, St. Mark's, Raleigh. Jimmy Creech, co-founder of Faith in America, will speak about the role persons of faith play in working for God's justice.      

   

13 - Mother's Day Dinner Theatre, 6:00pm, Good Shepherd, Rocky Mount. The event features the Cherub and Alleluia Choirs, the children from the Day School and the Good Shepherd Youth. There is a small charge for the dinner which will be served at this event, and tickets are required.   

  

20 - Choral Evensong: The Sunday After Ascension, 5:00pm, Good Shepherd, Rocky Mount. The Good Shepherd Choir will sing this candlelight evening service in the English cathedral tradition. A reception will follow, and childcare will be provided.
