Greetings!,

Happy Holidays!

What an incredible year it's been for Make A Difference! It's hard to believe that five years have gone by since we opened the doors and rolled out this very important financial education program. Five years, 800+ volunteers, 70 high schools, and more than 22,000 students reached! I admit that I am in awe when I think of what all of us have accomplished.

I recently completed teaching the program myself to a group of at-risk students in one of our alternative partner schools. I was reminded again, of the incredible opportunity we have to impact the lives of area youth. After talking with this group of students about compound interest and the importance of starting to save and invest early, one young man, Donrico, stopped me in the middle of the presentation and said, "Ms. Campbell, do you know what you're doing right now? You're making me rich!" Wow! Donrico caught me off guard with that statement. I paused, reflected, then responded with something that I'm sure all our volunteers could express: "Donrico, you're making me rich, too."

I want to take the opportunity of this holiday season to thank our many wonderful volunteers, educators, donors and other supporters of the Make A Difference mission and program. The need for the work we do is more important than ever. Teaching our teens, who are on the verge of adulthood and financial independence, to make informed and responsible decisions about finances is critical -- and will ultimately enable us to build a stronger and healthier community for everyone.

My sincere thank you to those who have provided financial support either recently or in the past. If you haven't considered it yet and would like to support achievements like these through a year-end gift, your contribution will be much appreciated and will allow us to provide financial literacy to even more students. From all of the staff and Board of Make A Difference - Wisconsin, our warmest wishes to you and yours for a happy and safe holiday season.

The date is set, the speakers are confirmed, and it's clear this will be the must-attend investment conference of the year!

Mark your calendar now as you won't want to miss this impressive line-up of leading investment professionals, including Jim Chanos, President and Founder of Kynikos Associates, the largest investment firm devoted exclusively to short selling. Throughout his career, he anticipated many corporate disasters, including Boston Chicken, Sunbeam, Tyco International; and most famously, his ENRON short-- which Barron's called "the market call of the decade, if not the past fifty years."

Make A Difference - WI reaches the Fox Valley

Kornerstone
Kornerstone School

Students at Kornerstone School in Kimberly are on their way to becoming "money smart" and "life smart".  Thanks to help from Fox Valley volunteers from Associated Bank, Make A Difference recently delivered financial education to all Kornerstone students.

"Kornerstone School is absolutely thrilled to be the first school in the Fox Valley to partner with Make a Difference-Wisconsin," says Josh Zimmers, Lead Teacher and Advisor.  "Bringing volunteers from our business and professional community into the classroom and allowing Kornerstone students to learn from those who practice good personal financial management themselves is extremely important to our approach to project-based and service learning.  This program will help prepare our students for success in college and later in their professions, as well as throughout the rest of their lives."
