Dear Friends,

The 2011/2012 program year is off to a great start!  We have some wonderful new board directors and staff at Make A Difference - Wisconsin, and I'm excited to introduce them in this newsletter.  We're busy connecting with schools and lining up classroom opportunities for volunteers, but please don't hesitate to call us if you have any questions about your volunteer status.

Thank you to all who attended our Appreciation Reception last week and special thanks to our generous host MillerCoors.  We'll have some event photos posted on the website soon. It was a true honor to watch Lloyd Levin present the 2011 Difference Maker award to Jim Neubauer and I was thrilled to share our outcomes and accomplishments. Check them out here.  This is what your support has enabled us to do!  Thank you!

I'm looking forward to working with you to have another great year helping even more students become Money Smart and Life Smart.

Congratulations to Jim Neubauer, 2011 Lloyd Levin Difference Maker!
Jim Neubauer
Jim Neubauer, BMO Financial Group
As a Make A Difference - Wisconsin instructor for two years, Jim Neubauer wins consistently high ratings from teachers and students alike and acts as a mentor to other volunteers. He also does much more than teach, serving on the Education and Development committees and helping to plan the 2012 Investment Conference.

Jim began college as an education major but shifted to business, earning a bachelor's degree from UW-Madison and a MBA from the University of Washington. He is now vice president and regional sales director for M&I Institutional Trust Services, a part of BMO Financial Group, but his passion for teaching remains. Read more...

Board Profile:

Margaret MacLeod Brahm

As executive director at Literacy Services of Wisconsin years ago, Margaret MacLeod Brahm worked with adults who were struggling - not just because of lack of adequate and effective education when they were younger, but with financial issues as well.

Later, as president and CEO of the American Lung Association of Wisconsin, she led an organization that stressed prevention. Both those experiences now motivate her as a new board member with Make A Difference - Wisconsin. Read more...

Robert W. Baird, Inc.

Serving on the Make A Difference Wisconsin board is Dan Tranchita's second volunteer venture in financial literacy.

"I witnessed the teaching of financial literacy in the schools through the Milwaukee County Council Boy Scouts of America, where I have served on the board since 1994," says Tranchita, a managing director with the Robert W. Baird investment firm.

Tranchita joined the Make A Difference Wisconsin board earlier this year after attending the first three investment conferences. Read more...

Make A Difference - Wisconsin Staff Update

Please join us in welcoming Kathy Weinberg-Kinsey and Nicole Sippy to the Make A Difference - Wisconsin family.

Kathy Weinberg-Kinsey began with Make A Difference in late July as the new Volunteer and Administrative Coordinator. Kathy has hit the ground running, pairing volunteers with classroom opportunity as programming is now well under way in the second month of the 2011 - 2012 school year.

Nicole Sippy started in her role as Development Manager in September, bringing extensive experience and a fresh perspective to Make A Difference - Wisconsin fund development.  Nicole will be integral in working to ensure that Make A Difference - Wisconsin reaches our annual fundraising goals.

Videos Provide Real-World Scenarios for Students

Thanks to a collaborative partnership with the Milwaukee Public Library and a grant from FINRA, Make A Difference - Wisconsin has added 3 professionally recorded videos using student actors to our classroom presentations.  Each video provides a real-world scenario and student conversation that ties in key elements of the Make A Difference - Wisconsin program.
