Program Update

The 2010 - 2011 school year has flown by and the taste of sunshine we received this past weekend reminds us that summer is just around the corner. We at Make A Difference - Wisconsin want to take an opportunity to thank all of you who have given your time and brought your enthusiasm to deliver presentations in the classroom. Without your efforts we would not be able to do what we do, and because of your willingness to share your insight with students more of our youth are better prepared to manage their finances responsibly than ever before. I've had the opportunity to speak with many teachers face-to-face over the past few weeks and their feedback has been very positive. Educator Chris LeDuc (Kettle Moraine High School) states, "It is a priviledge to have the volunteers and the Make A Difference - Wisconsin program in my classroom and we very much appreciate the partnership".
With your help we continue to expand the geographic reach of our programming and this year's new partner schools include Sussex Hamilton (Sussex), Connects Learning Center (Cudahy), St. Thomas More (St. Francis) Tremper (Kenosha) and J.I. Case (Racine). Both Tremper and J.I. Case students will be receiving presentations in the coming weeks. If you live or work in Racine and/or Kenosha and are interested in being put on the list of volunteers considered for these classes please let us know.
If you have not yet had the opportunity to volunteer this school-year and you have availability, please contact Kathie Yaeger, Volunteer Coordinator (414) 273-8101 and she will let you know about upcoming classes that meet your preferences.
Thanks again for all you do!

What Does Engagement Look Like?
We often focus our training and tips on empowering volunteers to "engage" students in the material but what does "engagement" really look like? Tracey Rodgers knows and she does an excellent job of getting students involved and excited about the material (see video below)...

|
"Own It!" Notes on effective presentations from our partner educators...
"Sharing personal stories related to the information presented is the most important part, the experience that volunteers have is totally invaluable" -Connects Learning Center
"Relate the PowerPoint to real life, use examples and use situations that students will understand"-University School
"Read your audience, talk to them, not at them...learning happens in conversation"-Lad Lake
"The volunteer really needs to own the classroom from the start, be prepared and confident, call students by name and involve them in the presentation"-Kettle Moraine |
