Don't miss David Einhorn at the 2nd Annual Investment Conference!
 Dear Friends,
Many of you attended our first investment conference last year and we want
you to be among the first to learn about our 2010
event.
The Make A Difference - Wisconsin 2nd Annual Investment Conference will be Tuesday, May 11, 1:30-5:00pm at the Intercontinental
Hotel, Milwaukee.
We're excited to announce that our
keynote speaker will be Fox Point native David Einhorn, president and founder of
Greenlight Capital, a long-short
value-oriented $6 billion hedge fund, which started with $1 million under
management in 1996 and has since generated more than 25% annualized net
return.
David's 2002 appearance at the Ira
Sohn Investment Conference in New
York caused the New York Stock Exchange to suspend
trading of private finance industry leader Allied Capital's shares after he
announced that Greenlight had sold short shares in the company. The ensuing
firestorm was chronicled in his 2008 book, "Fooling Some of the People All of the Time: A Long Short Story" published in 2008. He gained further notice for his
later critique of Lehman Brothers' accounting methods, as well as his decision
in August 2007 to short the company months before its sudden collapse.
We'll
have several other area investment experts on the program as well. Watch for
more info and registration details soon.
We hope you'll make plans now to
join us! Sincerely,
Joseph
Schlidt,
Investment Conference Chairperson

Board member brings her energy and passion to financial literacy issues

Growing
up in Milwaukee, Meridee Maynard
would "hang out"
with friends at Capitol Court
shopping center. Her mother would give her $3 to spend. When she got
home, her
mother would ask: "How much money do you have left?"
Meridee would put the money on the table. "Then she would
say, 'OK, what did you buy, and for how much?'" says Meridee, now a Make
A
Difference-Wisconsin board member. "I would literally have to do an
accounting,
right on the spot. That taught me early on that you can't just spend
whatever you
want. It taught me good money habits." Read more

New credit card
legislation "makes a difference" for consumers
We're excited at MAD-WI about the new
Credit CARD Act (Credit Card Accountability
Responsibility and Disclosure Act of 2009) that will go into effect
February 22nd. The new act
is designed to improve transparency for consumers and help them reduce their
credit card debt. This is a true turning point for American consumers that should help end
unfair rate hikes and most hidden fees. Read more
