United Way to Move Locations; Made Possible by Philanthropic Partnership with LSI | |
United Way of the Greater Lehigh Valley (UWGLV) will change locations on January 1, 2012. The organization's move was made possible by a philanthropic partnership with LSI Corporation, who leased the space at a significantly reduced rent.
"Through the support of LSI, our new space will save an estimated $109,000 over a five year period," said Susan Gilmore, president, United Way of the Greater Lehigh Valley. "These are funds that we can reinvest into the Lehigh Valley community - where the demand for services has substantially increased." To read more: Link |
Day of Caring 2011 | |
More than 800 employees from 39 area businesses volunteered their time, valued at $68,000, to 49 area non-profits during the United Way of the Greater Lehigh Valley's (UWGLV) 19th annual "Day of Caring."
On Thursday, September 22, non-profits in Lehigh and Northampton Counties had volunteers sprucing up their physical space by painting, cleaning, landscaping and general organizing. Volunteers also delivered meals to the homebound, visited with older adults and assisted with office projects.
"The outpouring of generosity during 'Day of Caring' is humbling," said Susan Gilmore, United Way of the Greater Lehigh Valley's president. "The support of our community - shown through the valuable gift of time - especially during these tough economic times is very much appreciated by all of our non-profit partners and friends."

United Way and UPS Partner on a "Drive for Education"
| |
The United Way of the Greater Lehigh Valley (UWGLV) and UPS partnered on a "Drive for Education." School supplies were collected for local educators - who need them the most - and were distributed by UPS drivers to schools in Allentown, Bethlehem and Easton on Friday, September 30. Education is one of three priorities for the United Way - to ensure that youth graduate from high school - and our educators are a key partner in this very important goal. The "Drive for Education" is one of three Community-Wide Mobilization events organized by UWGLV.
We especially want to thank our partner - UPS, and drop off sites - Boscov's at the Lehigh Valley Mall and Palmer Park Mall, Lightning Source, and LCCC. Link to Photos |

"Lights On Afterschool" | Three COMPASS Community School sites - Broughal Middle School, Fountain Hill Elementary and Bangor Area Middle School - will hold a "Lights on Afterschool" event tonight. The Community School events will be three of more than 7,500 such events around the nation today. The 11th annual "Lights On Afterschool," organized by the Afterschool Alliance, celebrates the achievements of afterschool students and draws attention to the need for more afterschool programs to serve the millions of children nationwide who are unsupervised and at risk each weekday afternoon.
