Greetings!
Summer may be coming to an end, but it's been far from vacation at SF Herb! We've been busy receiving freight containers - of botanical herbs from Europe, chamomile and other herbs and spices from Northern Africa, and lavender from France - in order to assure our customers the freshest, highest quality herbs possible. We've also totally revamped our in-house ordering program, ensuring the best possible security of our customer information as well as a seamless billing and order-fulfillment system. As a result, our summer newsletter was pushed back further and further, and only now is getting out to you!
Despite the dwindling number of days of summer, there's still plenty of time to get out (or stay in!) and enjoy the longer daylight hours. From barbecues - where spices can help to ensure flavorful eats - to indoor crafts, we hope this newsletter helps inspire and provide resources to assure you have a wonderful remainder of your summer!

Spice Up Your Barbecue
The longer days of the summer ensure plenty of daylight for barbecuing! We offer a variety of spices and spice blends that work well for various types of barbecued dishes, including: Barbecue spice blend With a hint of smoke flavor, this blend is great added to barbecue sauces or used as a marinade (simply add oil and vinegar to taste).
Chipotle chili powder These smoked, powdered Jalapeņos add a mild, earthy flavor to dishes, and work great in salsas, marinades, and meat rubs. Check out our website for more information and suggested uses.
Mesquite spice blend Mesquite seasoning is sweet and tangy, and is delicious on meats, fish, vegetables, eggs, and salad. Add to ground beef for great tacos, rub into favorite meats for grilling,
or blend with bread crumbs to coat pork chops and chicken cutlets!
Steak spice blend Our steak spice seasoning is a piquant, flavorful blend of salt, pepper, garlic, and other spices that is similar to Montreal Spice blend. It is a popular spice for any meat, but particularly beef - especially hamburgers and steaks.

Gentle Scents for a Soothing Stay
|
Cooling the House with Aromas Scent is one of the most enigmatic senses: it often is difficult to describe or compare, yet may elicit intense or evocatory reactions. During hot days, you may wish to use these properties of scent to provide cooling aromatherapy to your home.
We offer several scents that can be used to impart a general air of cooling to your rooms:
Citrus rain fragrance oil: This sweet rain fragrance has a hyacinth-like aroma with grapefruit and lemon notes.
Cucumber melon fragrance oil: A fruity, tart melon scent with cool green cucumber undertones.
Lemongrass essential oil: Both stimulating and refreshing, this slightly lemony, slightly grassy essential oil also functions as a natural insect repellant.
Summer citrus fragrance oil: A sweet, tart, lemon-candy rain scent that is similar to Aromatique's Summer Sorbet scent.
There are multiple ways to diffuse a scent through a room. Some of the most popular, and aesthetically pleasing, methods include through the use of reed diffusers and decorative potpourri. Also suitable are aroma rings, oil burners, and diffuser sprays.

A rose by any other name...
|
All Things Rosa Roses offer us numerous possibilities. Their decorative petals liven potpourris and craft projects and also provide color and floral elements in herbal and tea blends. Their dried fruits, which are high in Vitamin C, are used whole in a myriad of craft projects, and the whole, and crushed fruits are perfect for tart herbal teas and tea blends. Powders of the fruit are often used as a dietary supplement. Whole rose hips are often simply scented with an oil, and used as a fragrant item for primitive and country decoration. To scent rose hips, simply add an oil to them, mix well, and seal them in an airtight container for two to six weeks (the longer you seal them, the longer the scent will last). Remove and display! Rose petals and whole rose hips are listed in the Potpourri section of our website, while seedless crushed rose hips and powdered rose hips may be found in the Botanicals section. -------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Keeping It Cool: Iced Tea Suggestions
|
Hot Summer days are perfect for relaxing and unwinding with a cold cup of iced tea. For some, iced tea should simply be a flavorful black tea, while others prefer their iced tea to have complex fruity or tart flavors.
| We carry several teas that are great hot or iced. For iced tea, simply brew tea as normal, then chill and sweeten to your preference.
Ambrosia O.P. Ambrosia is a blend of three flavored black teas, and produces a sophisticated nectar with hints of cinnamon and citrus. Great both iced and hot.
Ceylon B.O.P. Our Ceylon tea brews like Lipton iced tea, and is great for a basic iced black tea.
Chai B.O.P. A great aromatic, spicy, and full-bodied iced tea. Highly recommended, especially sweetened with milk or soymilk!
Hibiscus Our hibiscus flowers may be used to make a natural, caffeine-free punch without any sweetener. Naturally cooling, hibiscus punch is high in Vitamin C and great for kids and adults alike.
Paradiso Red Paradiso starts with a naturally caffeine-free Rooibos base which is then infused with tropical flavors. A very mellow and fruity cup!
Passion Peach O.P. This full bodied, extremely fruity black tea is great iced or as a sun tea. It has an intense flavor composed of peach, passion nectar, and mangoes, with citrus aromatics.
There are many more teas that work well iced. Check out our website for our full list of tea offerings!
