Christmas Eve Vigil

About 100 community members attended the annual Christmas Eve Noon Vigil. The sun was shining brightly as Pastor Robyn Weaver lead the gathering in prayer, song and reflection. Shad Olsen and Keely Holcomb offered their beautiful gifts of song. Deb Holman read the names of the 25 individuals who died in 2011 having experienced homelessness.
The vigil reminds us that we must keep the memories, the community needs, AND hope alive into the New Year. Together, we are called to bring everyone in from the cold.
Thank you to everyone who attended the event and everyone who donated items or monetary gifts to CHUM. It was an incredible outpouring of generosity and caring. A reading from the vigil:
"Lend a Hand" by Edward Everett Hale I am only one. But still I am one.
I cannot do everything,
But still I can do something; And because I cannot do everything
I will not refuse to do the something that I can do.

 Raising Awareness of White Privilege
CHUM has partnered with the YWCA of Duluth, and other agencies, to promote the Un-Fair Campaign. The goal is to raise awareness about white privilege in our community, provide resources for understanding and action, and facilitate dialogue and partnership that result in fundamental, systemic change towards racial justice. The campaign will kick-off with a series of billboards around Duluth and a press conference on January 24th. If you are interested in getting involved with the campaign or want to learn more about what you can do, please visit http://unfaircampaign.org/.
