Living in Cars and the Woods
CHUM's Street Outreach program is in need of sleeping bags, 1 or 2 man tents and tarps for homeless folks living outside. "Now that the weather is getting cooler," Deb Holman, CHUM Street Outreach Worker, stated, " we are seeing families living in cars and people hunkering down in the woods for the winter. This is the worst year I have ever seen." While CHUM works to move people indoors and to find the appropriate housing, there are often barriers which prevent this from happening. Deb concluded, "By creating relationships with those I find living outside, over time, I can generally get them housed." |
