Greetings!

With the summer winding down parents and students are beginning their annual trek to gather school supplies and clothing.  The families served by CHUM have similar rituals. Where they shop and what they can purchase might be a bit different, but they truly want their children to be ready for school too.

To extend the gifts so many of you have contributed we have a grant from Open Your Heart to the Hungry and Homeless.

We  thank them and you for supporting our efforts to provide a filled backpack to each child in need.

Follow this link to learn about what is needed.  Follow this link if you or someone you know is in need of assistance.

Continue to enjoy the dog days of summer and the fresh start to a new school year!

Reducing Food Insecurities

1/2 tomatoeThroughout the year CHUM's Food Shelves provide food to those with food insecurities.  It is a constant struggle to keep food on the shelves and to rotate stock so  food is not wasted.  You will notice throughout the year there are several drives for food and contributions to purchase food, maintain our facilities, pay our staff, all necessary to continue to meet the needs of those who are hungry.

Sometimes it is overwhelming how our food shelf is supported.  When we request a freezer a group or individual shows up ready to purchase a new one.  During October we hold the FoodShare Drive in cooperation with  local grocery stores and food shelves, during the Winter Holidays we are blessed with groceries and gifts.  In March we challenge you to help us bring in enough food and money to receive matching gifts from the  Minnesota FoodShare March Campaign and the Feinstien Foundation.  You respond EVERY TIME!

More and more people turn to food shelves and other feeding programs as thier family income is stretched beyond its limits.  We too feel stretched, by the need, and funding organizations to continue to find more and more ways to encourage contributions. During the last fiscal year one of our long term funding sources was asked to come up with a new way to stretch the dollars they receive and distribute.  This year, in order to obtain that long standing funding we must find a matching gift DURING SEPTEMBER.  Therefore we are asking you to once again help us maintain our funding by giving a gift in September.  This will not decrease our need for funding during the October FoodShare Drive or the March FoodShare March Campaign. It will just keep our past funding secure.

Please call Meg Kearns 727-2391 or Mary Schmitz 720-6521 if you wish to help.
