Channel 13 News
Our thoughts and prayers go out to those families and friends who lost loved ones at Fort Hood. Red Bird Center therapists appeared on Channel 13 in Houston, Texas after this unfortunate incident. Margie and Sheryl were asked to comment on the efficacy of using social networking to facilitate the grieving process. Many people posted expressions of condolences on Facebook and Twitter because they felt a strong need to connect with the grieving families. Social networks afforded this opportunity to a great number of people.
Margie and Sheryl pointed out the merit of being able to reach out and connect. However, we also warned against using these communication networks as the only avenue for expressing feelings. Speaking face to face with our friends and family members is very important. We need the interaction and the intimacy that personal communication affords. Sometimes our feelings deserve more than a "sound bite."
