FCW reports sign-ups on Twitter for the Department of Homeland Security's (DHS') new terrorism alert system are surpassing those on Facebook by almost 70 percent so far. The new system is scheduled to go into effect April 26, 2011.
 
U.S. Army evaluating Android for battlefield comms...
CNET reports the Android-based Joint Battle Command-Platform (JBC-P) gadget is undergoing evaluations and moving closer to deployment. The JBC-P Handheld, which is currently in prototype form, is part of a broader effort by the U.S. Army to bring more mobile communications capabilities to soldiers engaged in tactical operations. The Army does not expect these handhelds to be fielded for its people--or to the Marine Corps--until the government's 2013 fiscal year.

In this age of Twitter, YouTube and dwindling viewership of broadcast evening news, a president must use every resource available, White House press secretary Jay Carney said earlier this week. CNBC reports President Obama mixing politics and policy to kick-off his re-election campaign and west coast fund-raising trek. Returning to the previous campaign's playbook, the president will seek to connect with new and younger voters through social networking.   There will be new fundrasing apps for that.

 In Memoriam

 

Donald French | 1947 - 2011


Dr. Donald French of Beltsville, Maryland died suddenly from  medical complications last month.  He was the Executive Director of the National Black Data Processing Associates (NBDPA), a premier membership and training organization in the Information Technology Industry. Donald FrenchDr. French was responsible for the daily operation of the organization's national headquarters in the Washington, D.C. Metropolitan Area, and worked diligently to delivering IT excellence to the organization's members and strategic partners while keeping it focused on being at the forefront of the IT industry. He was very instrumental in launching the organization's Oracle Scholars Program.

A native of California, Dr. French received his Bachelors and Masters in Public Administration from Golden Gate University, in San Francisco. He received his Ph.D. in Business Administration from Suffield University, Idaho.

Dr. French previously served in the for-profit industry for several years as a Company Controller and Corporate Treasurer. For the past twenty years, Dr. French has served in the non-profit industry, most recently, over the previous eight years as the Chief Administrative Officer of Progressive Life Center and the Chief Operating Officer of Family and Child Services, of Washington, D.C. In previous stints, Dr. French has served in Executive capacities for United Cerebral Palsy, Easter Seals, and International Technology, Inc.   Services for Dr. French were privately held in California.
