Greetings!

That's how you say Merry Christmas is Serbian, Spanish, French, and Hawaiian! And, while we're at it, Happy Yalda, Dongzhi Kualile, Happy Pancha Ganapati, and Joyous Kwanzaa!

In this glorious season, we are grateful for all of you - our Global Explorers Kids family. Thank you for all that you do. Whether you are donors, volunteers, program participants, or a member of our larger community, we couldn't do what we do without you. Thank you for sharing in our dream of opening ourselves and our children to the whole breadth of human experience, of crossing cultures, sharing our traditions, learning more about each other, and celebrating our similarities and differences.

Happy explorations!
December Holidays Around the World

During this holiday season, we seek respite from the cold days and short nights of winter time as we direct our minds to celebration, goodwill, and the promise of light to come. While most people are familiar with the various traditions of Christmas, there are many other holidays celebrated in December around the world. As you celebrate your own traditions, embrace the whole of humanity by learning more about how others celebrate in this season of wonder. Below is a sampling of December holiday traditions from around the world read more

Global Explorers Kids After School Global Explorers Kids has just finished the fall after school session at Waters, Blaine, and CICS-Irving Park.

While learning about folktales and bookmaking techniques from around the world, the children at Waters also created a video book on the Mexican folktale "Cuckoo." Their project can be viewed on YouTube.

The children at Blaine learned about storytelling traditions around the world. One of their projects included creating a shadow puppet play of an Indonesian folktale, which is also available to view on YouTube.
After the holiday break, new winter sessions are set to begin at  Waters, Blaine, Nettelhorst, and CICS-Irving Park.

Web Site Project
Global Explorers Kids has been revamping its website, thanks to a Community Arts Assistance Program grant from the Chicago Department of Cultural Affairs, and a generous inkind donation from Obaji Nyambi at Globalpie Solutions, Inc. Look for the new site in the coming months.
