Horse Factoid:
Horses hooves are like fingernails. They are always growing and need to be clipped sometimes so that the horse won't be uncomfortable.
Greetings!

It's April and good weather is here! With it comes extra riding time- see the announcement -  and butterflies in our new garden.  Sign ups continue for the Curtis Whitley Golf Tournament.  There's still time to sign up.  Get a group together for a great day of golf and support your favorite therapeutic riding program too.

Pattie out for a ride

If you've been out to see the kids ride you may have noticed something interesting.  Sometimes the kids ride backwards.  Why?  There are several reasons for this.  First, there's a lot going on when you're new to riding and sometimes it's good to keep "new" to a minimum.  There's a lot less going on looking back than looking forward.  With that head swaying back and forth, mane swishing, snorting noises and the like, it can distract anyone from learning the basics and can be a little frightening at times.Riding backwards gives young riders a chance to get over the fear of being on a horse.

However, riding backwards is physically harder and more intimidating. Riders work a different set of muscles and develop greater strength and balance.  Students have a huge sense of accomplishement and greater confidence knowing that they CAN do it. It really is a great self esteem builder.

Speaking of looking back, it can be the same in our lives- there's a whole lot going on looking forward. Life is busy and demanding. Looking back occasionally to see where we've been is a great idea. I wonder when we are looking back over our lives do we like the view?  Galatians   6: 8-9 says, "Let us not become weary in doing good, for at the proper time we will reap a harvest if we do not give up. "  Thank you to all those toil on to do good in his name.

Butterfly Garden Dedication
Linda Braund Honored                                          Linda and Zack

Our beautiful butterfly garden is almost complete.  Parents now have a peaceful place to sit and relax while children have their lessons.  We want to thank Linda Braund for the gift of this garden.  She planned the garden to attract butterflies and children who would enjoy the butterflies and beautiful blooms.  Through her use of perennial plants, the garden will be enjoyed for years to come.  We thank her for all of her work and dedication to the program.

We also want to thank Longhill Nursery and John Harmuth, the owner, for the donation of 100 plants. Longhill Nursery can be found at the Farmer's Market.  Stop in and say hi and let him know how much we appreciate his donation! He is well known for his large variety of plants- especially the Knock Out Roses.

Also to be thanked is Stacey Ryder.  It seems Linda roped her in, as Linda is good at doing, into some creative rock painting.  Stacey painted the fruits of the Spirit along with other inspirational words on rocks to border the garden.
Thank you all!
