Please Rescue Me
Another Chance Rescue Ranch - Conesus, NY
I am an animal advocate and have been helping animals for over 20
years. I volunteered in the rescue of animals in New Orleans after
hurricane Katrina. It was then that I knew I wanted to focus on this
full-time so I began the process of starting my own rescue. I do know
that one person doing their part, no matter how large or small, can
make a difference.
I have met so many gracious, deserving pets over the years and try to
give back the love and trust they put in me by giving them a better
life than where they came from and "Another Chance" to find a forever
home. I have met many dedicated people from all over the U.S. doing
what they can to improve the lives of many formerly unwanted pets. I
have fallen in love with my FOSTER FURRIES over the years and although
it is always hard to let them go, just thinking of the next one needing
to be saved helps me continue.
I do this in my own home where I get to
know each and every one of them very well and can make the best matches
into new families. They all stay in my home and become part of the
family until their own family can be found. I do this with the help of
my husband, Ray, who is a retired Firefighter. We received our 501c3
non-profit status at the end of 2007 so donations are tax deductible.
Donations are needed to help with the vet bills and to keep my rescue
going. We are volunteers so every dollar goes into caring for the
animals.

Tippy is a beautiful 8 month old dog who still has a lot of puppy
energy. She has the most gorgeous coat that is the color of Chestnut.
Black with reddish brown highlights...and two white tipped toes so I'm
sure that's how she got her name. We aren't exactly sure of her breed
but she has the Collie nose and eyes. She would love a family to run
and play with. She is definitely frisky, energetic and puppyish but she
has the potential of being a great companion and dog. She loves to be
hugged and fussed over, and swimming in our creek is one of her
favorite things to do. She even likes to blow bubbles under water with
her nose.. In just a short time she has learned the "sit" command very
well and is doing amazing on the leash walks (rescuers believe that she
was never leash walked in her previous life). With love, patience and a
forever home some lucky person(s) are going to have the dog and
companion of a life-time. She loves other dogs and will need a little
more training to make her the great dog I know she can be.
 Titan
Titan is such a great dog with wonderful leash manners. He is very
attentive and wants to please. He would make a great addition to any
family. He's a nice size at 70 pounds and has a beautiful short. wavy
coat. When I think of how close he was to being gone forever because he
was a big black dog overlooked in an overcrowded shelter and his time
was up...it makes me want to cry. Such a sweet soul, I'm so happy he is
here and safe now.

The goal of the Rochester Canine Academy is to educate
owners on how to effectively communicate with their dogs so that the family dog
can become a family
member.
The Rochester Canine
Academy believes that you and your dog
are
individuals. Each training program is designed to meet your specific needs.
The
programs are structured to ensure continued progress towards your goals. A balanced approach of correction and praise is
used to teach your dogs basic commands and general good manners.
By
taking the time to understand your dog's language and the importance of pack hierarchy,
we can better communicate our desires and expectations. This approach
enables you to speak with your dog in a simple yet effective way.
When your dog
understands it's role in the family, it feels more secure.
This in turn increases positive behavior which, allows
you to include your dog in more family activities.

Ask the Trainer By Alisson Goldberg, Rochester Canine Academy
Question:
What does your
certification mean and why does it make you different from other trainers in
Rochester?
Answer:
Did you know
that in the State of New York, there are no requirements that a person needs to
meet in order to call themselves a dog trainer? That means that YOU
could read some books, watch a few videos, make a business card, and call yourself
a Dog Trainer.
My certification means I went
to school to learn from experienced, well known dog professionals how to best teach you and your dog.
My education included not only theoretical learning but also hands on experience that can not be duplicated in
an online course. I am qualified to do much more than teach you to walk your dog in a circle
with other dogs. I have earned the
skills necessary to help you make your family dog into a family member.
Question: Why don't you offer any group classes?
Answer: In my
experience, group classes are a difficult
place for you and your dog to learn new
skills. There are frequently many dogs and even more people making it very hard for most to really focus. Due to the class sizes, trainers generally
rely on "cookie cutter" methods of teaching. Very little is
done to personalize training for each dog/handler
team.
Most importantly however, is the fact
that many owner's have a difficult time transferring the information that they have learned in a circle
back into their daily lives where it really counts.
