Jesus, Thou Joy of Loving Hearts

----------------------------------------

Jesus, Thou Joy of Loving hearts, Thou fount of life, thou light of men, From the best bliss that earth imparts, We turn unfilled to Thee again.

Thy truth unchanged hath ever stood; Thou savest those that on Thee call; To them who seek Thee thou art good, To them who find Thee all in all.

Our restless spirits yearn for Thee, Where'er our changeful lot is cast; Glad then Thy gracious smile we see, Blest when our faith can hold Thee fast.

Change the dark night of sin away, shed o'er the world Thy holy light.

hymnal

"O God, whom saints and angels delight to worship in heaven:  Be ever present with your servants who seek through art and music to perfect the praises offered by your people on earth; grant to them even now glimpses of your beauty, and make them worthy at length to behold it unveiled for 'evermore; through Jesus Christ our Lord.
Amen"

The beautiful, quiet and holy season of Lent offers church musicians the opportunity to play their most beloved, elegant and haunting compositions.

One composition in particular is truly a favorite. Vocalise, Op. 34, No. 14 is a song by Sergei Rachmaninoff, published in 1912 as the last of his Fourteen Songs, Op. 34.  Written for voice (soprano or tenor) with piano accompaniment, it contains no words, but is sung using any one vowel (of the singer's choosing). It was dedicated to soprano Antonina Nezhdanova. We will play it using an instrumental version as the prelude for this week.

The anthem is one of Claude L.Bass' most lovely compositions, "Jesus , Thou Joy of Loving Hearts

Thou fount of life, thou light of men, From the best bliss that earth imparts We turn unfilled to Thee Again."

May the Lord in Heaven assist us in our praises and meditation.   amen

Pampa Community Choir To Sing
Sunday, March 28th 7:30 PM

good_friday_article_picThis Sunday, February 28th at 2:00 PM in the Nave we will have our second full rehearsal in preparation for a Holy Week performance of the Faure Requiem.

We  have more commitments from singers from First Baptist Church, Lutheran Church, First Presbyterian Church, First United Methodist Church and of course, St. Matthew's.  So this is truly an ecomunical endeavor.

If you know of anyone who would be a good contributor to the Pampa Community Choir, it is not too late.  Please contact them or email Russ & Rick at RnRFusion@RnRFusion.com with their contact information and we will extend them an invitation to be a part of this exciting endeavor.

Come be a part or send someone who would love to experience worshiping with the people of St. Matthew's and our fellow worshipers in Pampa.

Transendence - The Death of a Saint- by Rick

I want to rattle off a few thoughts on this subject and will come back to the subject again in this series dealing with transendence.

During the years when I was an organist in evangelical churches we had moments of transcendence that at the time seemed more emotional rather than esoteric. Those moments occurred particularly at FBC Dallas during those early years of the conservative/liberal biblical wars when one of our most beloved soloists and I would perform a simple gospel song and I would have the freedom to create the accompaniment almost at the moment of performance.

Linda Almond had an elegant rich alto voice and she loved those great gospel songs like "No One Ever Cared for Me Like Jesus" then there was Janice Mossima the only black member of the choir at that time who loved those great black gospel songs by James Dorsey.

Once in a great while we could offer a simple solo without the full orchestra - I cherished those moments. After I left FBC, I invited Janice Mossima to sing for a joint revival... (click here to read more)

Visit Our Homepage
by Russ

If you have not visited our home page at RnRFusion.com lately stop by and experience moments as they are captured each week in our live worship services.  What you hear as you visit our site through the media player at the top of each page at RnRFusion.com  are the original arrangements and compositions that Rick & I are creating each week in service to our little church in the Texas panhandle, St. Matthew's Episcopal Church in Pampa, TX.  Although we have our fingers in so many pies we make our service music for St. Matthew's our top priority each week.  We are having a blast while breaking through the barriers of church music with our special "fusion" of great literature, original compositions and improvisations in the use of the historic Mohler Pipe Organ and the Yamaha Motif Synthesizer.

We are very grateful to the people of St. Matthew's for allowing us to express our hearts of worship through our spiritual and musical gifts.

Rick & I have experienced leading worship and making music in the largest evangelical churches in the state of Texas, but they do not compare to the beauty, tranquility and aesthetic spiritual depth that we have the freedom to experience at St. Matthew's through our weekly musical offerings in service to God and the dear people of St. Matt's.

We hope that you are blessed by what you hear.  To hear the corporate musical expressions from the congregation of St. Matthew's.....(click here to read more of what you can find at RnR Fusion)
