Christmas Eve St Matts
hymnal

Sing Alleluia!
Chapel Stained Glass & Candles
Christ is born Give Glory!
Christ comes from heaven, meet Him. Christ is on the earth, be exalted. O all the earth, sing unto the Lord and sing praises in gladness, O all you people, for he has been glorified.  Wisdom and Word and Power, Christ our God is the Son and the Brightness of the Father; and unknown to the powers both above and upon the earth, he has made man and so has won us back again: for He has been glorified.

hymnal
"O God, whom saints and angels delight to worship in heaven:  Be ever present with your servants who seek through art and music to perfect the praises offered by your people on earth; grant to them even now glimpses of your beauty, and make them worthy at length to behold it unveiled for evermore; through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen"

The Prelude selection, "Sheep May Safely Graze",
forthis week
is perhaps one of the most well known transcriptions from the Birthday Cantata by J. S. Bach. It is an arrangement  of a Soprano aria from Cantata 208 for the birthday of Duke Christian of Sachzen - Weissenfels in 1716. The fresh, pastoral character of the music is a remarkable instance of Bach's power of tone painting.  The phrasing throughout is extremely recognizable by many individuals who have no idea of the magnitude and volume of J.S. Bach's musical output.

The elegant offertory "Come To Bethlehem" is by the Welsh composer, Peter Warlock and is the somewhat paganistic sobriquet of Philip Arnold Heseltine used for this instrumental suite know as the "Capriole Suite". The text of this tune was written and arranged by Dom Gregory Murray (1905-1992) who wrote a vast amount of music for the Roman Catholic church and literally revolutionized the content and actual quality of music performed therein.

And finally The Rejouisance, (the Rejoicing)  from The Music for the Royal Fireworks (HWV 351) is a musical suite composed by George Frideric Handel in 1749 under contract of George II of Great Britain for the fireworks in London's Green Park on 27 April 1749. It was to celebrate the end of the War of the Austrian Succession and the signing of the Treaty of Aix-la-Chapelle in 1748.

We hope to usher in this new year with great beauty and musical luster.  amen RDL
