Christmas Eve St Matts
hymnal
This Week at St. Matthew's

Christmas Eve St Matts

Sing Alleluia!
Chapel Stained Glass & Candles
All is well, All is well.
Angels and men rejoice!
For tonight darkness fell into
the dawn of love's light.
Sing alleluia!
All is well, All is well.
Let there be peace on earth.
Christ is come, go and tell that
He is in the manger.
Sing Alleluia!
All is well, All is well.
Lift up your voice and sing.
Born is now Emmanuel.
Born is our Lord and Savior.
Sing Alleluia.

Service Music For Christmas Eve

hymnal
"O God, whom saints and angels delight to worship in heaven:  Be ever present with your servants who seek through art and music to perfect the praises offered by your people on earth; grant to them even now glimpses of your beauty, and make them worthy at length to behold it unveiled for evermore; through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen"

The first prelude selection for Christmas Eve is by the noted French Organist, Marcel Dupre who was titular organist at the Cathedral of Notre Dame in Paris and also one the world's finest organ improvisiteurs.  His setting of the Magnificat is in a true French Impressionist style - slow and extremely mystical.

The second selection is a setting of Low How A Rose by Scott Warren who is  my dear friend, student and colleague and has played for us at St. Matthews. He is currently Organist/Choir Master at Temple EMANU'EL in New York City.

The offertory is an extremely unusual setting of Greensleeves by Richard Purvis who was Organist/Choir Master at Grace Cathedral in San Francisco for many years. It has a wonderful "middle eastern" motif throughout - truly beautiful and moving.

And...the closing Voluntary is the famous Finale Jubilante by the Canadian organist Healey Willan.
