Surfing the Sonoma Coast - a photo show by Doc.  Specializing in Sonoma County surf photography.  "Doc" starting surfing at age 11 in Montara, CA.  He surfed each day before school in Half Moon Bay.  Surfing was one of his loves and the other was to take photos of surfing and waves.  Now the years have passed and "Doc" is going past 60 and showing some of his current work.  Surfers captured in the photos will share in any sale proceeds.

SK8 planes Handplanes by BT -

W Blair Tom...

Is an artist, historian, surfer, skateboarder, teacher, and general enthusiast of fun and good times.  Always searching for new experiences, Blair and his employer Drew brainstormed the idea of producing hand planes out of old skateboard decks for bodysurfing.  Inspired by this idea Blair enveloped himself in this new process of woodworking and pyrography, the art of burning images into a surface.  Blair has painted extensively for over 15 years, always doodling, and this new art form has sparked a redevelopment and exploration of his creative side.  Currently he is finishing his Master's thesis at Sonoma State University on the history of surf culture and surfer migration into El Salvador and Nicaragua.

Sk8planes and other works:

The artwork presented in this show includes many hand planes, sealed in a combination of oils or epoxy resins.  Also, there are several wood panel pyrography pieces and painting.  The most current works  are the Sk8planes with pyrography.  Using a wood burning machine the artist is able to create images that blend into and also enhance the natural beauty of the wood and skateboards.

Surf / Nature paintings and drawings -

Ariel Lockshaw is an Art student and athlete at Santa Rosa Junior College and will be transferring to Sonoma State University in the Fall of 2011.  Ariel is highly influenced by nature, music and people that aspire to inspire.  She creates Art for the sake of the creative process.  Expression is important.   Ariel likes the ability to put her thoughts and ideas onto paper without having to use words, for others to interpret and gain their own sense and understanding of the world she sees.

Come by the shop for this art show opening event to check out and support local artists.  We will provide beverages and snacks and it promises to showcase 3 talented individuals with their own take on surf art.  Art pieces will be on display 2/24/2011 through 3/24/2011.

We hope you can make it and look forward to seeing you Thursday night.  Mark your calendars.

Sincerely,
Drew Reinstein
