Best Wishes for a Safe and Happy Holiday Season!

DEAR OLD TOWN NEIGHBOR,
Winter is officially upon us and the holiday travel frenzy has begun.  Please take a moment to read about the happenings in Old Town and make sure to relax with your friends and family this holiday season!  Look no further than Old Town for a myriad of shopping and liesure time activities through the New Year!

Miller Lite Free Rides drives through Old Town

miller lite free ridesThis Holiday season you have a different option for transportation!  You don't need to drive, take the train, or wait for someone to give you a ride home.  Miller Lite Free Rides invites consumers to engage in a shared responsibility when they choose to plan ahead for a safe ride home!

Miller Lite Free Rides runs 8 p.m. until 1 a.m. every Saturday evening through the end of December, as well as on New Year's Eve and New Year's Day. Two double-decker buses will run a looped route that offers stops in:
  • The Loop and River North
  • Old Town
  • Lincoln Park
  • Wrigleyville
The route includes stops at neighborhood restaurants and bars, and in proximity to several main El stations on multiple transit lines so driving is unnecessary this holdiay season.

Take a look at the linked "looped route" above and you'll see the double decker bus will be traveling up Wells Street and stopping at Corcoran's at 1615 N. Wells!

The students at Franklin Fine Arts have been at it again!  This year's holiday program included dance, drama, and music performances from students in fifth through eighth grade.

Sidewalk Cafe License Renewals are Out!

Believe it or not we're already on to Spring and Summer when it comes to planning the Old Town sidewalk cafes!  If you are re-applying for a cafe, you should have already received word from the City on how to re-apply.  If you are a new applicant for the City-issued license you can go online after the New Year to begin the process.

It may be cold outside, but the Restaurant Committee of the Old Town Merchants and Residents Association is hard at work and ready to answer any questions about setting up your sidewalk cafe for the 2010 season.

Keep your eyes and ears peeled for a meeting in the beginning of January -- the Restaurant Commitee will be getting together to discuss rules and regulations the City has for sidewalk cafes.  If you have any questions or want to make sure not to miss the meeting, please contact the OTMRA office at 312-951-6106!
