chicago history museumAnnouncing Honorary Marion Konishi Way!
On Monday, November 17th at the corner of Schiller and Wells, Chicago's newest honorary street sign was unveiled.  The stretch of Schiller at Wells will now be known as honorary Marion Konishi Way.
In 1967, Marion Konishi opened Kamehachi of Tokyo across from Second CIty on Wells St.  Over the past forty plus years Marion (1916-1990), her daughter Sharon Perazzoli, and her granddaughter, Giulia Sindler; have expanded the restaurant to include multiple locations in the Chicago area.
The unveiling was witnessed by Aldermen Burnett and Daley, Representative Ken Dunkin, and a large number of family, neighbors, and collegues.  It was a moving moment for many -- commemorating the incredible strength, drive, and resolve of a woman who set her mind to accomplish her dreams and succeeded in creating a business that has spanned three generations.

FIFTH THIRD BANK GRAND OPENINGchicago history museum
Although they have been in the neighborhood for about six months, the good folks at Fifth Third Bank on the corner of LaSalle and North held a ribbon cutting ceremony and hosted their customers and neighbors with food, drink, and lively conversation.
43rd Ward Alderman Vi Daley joined Fifth Third manager Kenneth Edwards as the bank donated money to both Franklin Fine Arts and Chicago Dramatists.

Holidays Hit Wells Streetchicago history museum
It seems to sneak up this way every year -- not that we're complaining.  The decorations hit Wells Street seemingly overnight this year.  Snowflakes were chosen as a theme for the street's decorations and the students at Immaculate Conception Elementary were happy to help out by creating flakes for any interested businesses.  They're going fast, but if you call the office there may be a few left for your windows!
Old Town Gardens has been up and down the ladders countless times wrapping ribbon, garland, and lights around all our vintage street lamps.  Take a walk at night -- enjoy one of the restuarants, stop in at one of the boutiques, take in some theatre -- and enjoy the beauty of Wells Street during the holidays.

Thanks to all the people who have attended and helped with our festivals and events this past season.  Your donations -- time, money, and in-kind -- help us support local charities and keep the neighborhood looking great!

Sincerely,

Old Town Merchants & Residents Association
