 Award
Recycling Award

Again this year, Emerald Heights has been named as one of King County's "Best Workplaces for Waste Prevention and Recycling for 2012."

Emerald Heights earned recognition this year for its Green Team, which worked to identify ways to go greener, and for reducing print publications, using energy-efficient bulbs, appliances and windows, installing light motion sensors, and encouraging residents to purchase reusable to-go containers for their take-out meals and use bio-based chemicals in their kitchen, housekeeping and laundry.

Emerald Heights has received the award more than five years in a row and has earned a place on the "Business Honor Roll."

Greetings!

Last month we celebrated the grand opening of our new Fitness Center and welcomed guests for our annual Open House. Then, the construction equipment rolled in and started tearing down the old fitness center, preparing for the construction of our new Pavilion. CEO Lisa Hardy and resident George Scott reflect on the planning process that brought us here and what the future holds.

If moving to Emerald Heights might be in your future, be sure to get the latest about our Trailside Building and how to join our Trailblazer 2014 club.

We hope you are enjoying your summer.

Fitness Center

Fitness Center was the main attraction at annual Open House

Approximately 125 guests joined us for this year's Open House on Saturday, July 21, enjoying an extensive tour of apartment homes, shared community spaces and the newly opened Fitness Center.

"We heard a lot of 'oohs' and 'aahs' as guests saw the new Fitness Center," says Sharon Howell, marketing and sales director. "I heard a number of comments about how beautiful the grounds are and how great it is that the residents can just walk out their door and enjoy all that Emerald Heights has to offer."

At the Fitness Center, Director of Resident and Wellness Services Ben Brock and Fitness Specialist Kim Palka gave demonstrations of the new equipment and talked about the fitness opportunities residents enjoy.

"The other main attraction was the food!" says Howell. "Our chefs prepared a delicious assortment of healthy snacks, from yogurt parfaits with fresh fruit and granola to fruit kabobs, mini and pinwheel sandwiches, smoked salmon on mini bagels and crudités."

"Guests wanted to know if residents got to eat like this every day," recalls Howell. "Of course! Life is good when professional chefs do all your cooking."

demolition work
Construction crews demolish old Fitness Center to make room for new multi-purpose complex

Within days of our annual Open House, where more than 100 guests toured the new Fitness Center, construction equipment rolled back on campus and demolished the old Fitness Center, paving the way for construction of the Pavilion, a 10,980-square-foot, multi-purpose building.

Scheduled to be complete in April 2013, the $5.2 million Pavilion will offer flexible meeting space to meet the varied needs of the community. Partitions will allow two Game Rooms to be added to a larger meeting space (the New Emerald Room). When combined, the large space will accommodate seating for approximately 260 for meetings and performances or banquet seating for approximately 240. An Audio Visual room adjacent to the main meeting space will house Emerald Heights' resident-run in-house TV Channel (Channel 950.)

When complete, an entry gallery will connect the Pavilion to both the new Fitness Center and the main Living Room, and will open out onto a new landscaped courtyard.

Pavilion groundbreaking

The official groundbreaking was held on July 12th, 3:30 p.m.  Mayor John Marchione attended, along with representatives from the architect, general contractor (GLY), landscape architect, and our financial partners.
