Greetings!
Got a little spring fever? This time of year, when the sun finally begins to emerge from behind the clouds, we often feel an extra burst of energy to take care of our to-do list and deal with the tougher tasks we've been avoiding. What's on your list? Guests who attended last month's Make Your Move Workshop Series are now well-equipped with tips and resources to help them "get a move on" this spring. Resident blogger Marilyn Farrell hopes a little of that initiative extends to her father, who is facing a move of his own. Speaking of initiative, Emerald Heights residents are full of it! One of the many resident-led projects on campus is the Coffee Shop, which will soon reach the $100,000 mark in profits raised for the Benevolence Fund. Even CEO Lisa Hardy took her turn behind the Coffee Shop counter recently to serve her Grandma Reynolds' Oatmeal Pancakes! Finally, if you haven't yet attended one of our Master Plan: A Vision for Expansion meetings, be sure to sign up for one of these new dates. Enjoy! |
Event Recap

Last month's Make Your Move Workshop Series was a great success, thanks to our room full of energetic and inquisitive guests and our two presenters:
- Bill Badgley, GRI, ABR, SRES, Managing Broker,
Badgley & Badgley Real Estate
www.badgleyhomes.com Mr. Badgley discussed current market trends, how to stage a home and the helpful resources now available to sellers. He revealed that houses are selling best when owners are realistic in pricing and take their real estate agent's advice about improvements they should make prior to listing. Badgley & Badgley Real Estate has been having quite a bit of success recently, and their sellers have not had to make major changes in the décor of their homes.
- Eric G. Rovner, Co-Founder, Benevia
www.benevia.com Mr. Rovner made one of the toughest parts of moving -- downsizing -- seem very doable. He suggested that the best place to start is with the easy decisions. (Don't get stuck by dealing first with the family heirlooms and prized possessions!) Ask questions: Is this item useful to me? Or to someone else? Is this item valuable to me? Or to someone else? He gave the example of having six hammers; keep one or two, but don't keep all of them. He also reminded guests about Emerald Heights' complimentary START program and encouraged everyone to get moving! To learn more about START and what Benevia can do for you, contact info@benevia.com.

Campus Coffee Shop nears $100,000 raised for Benevolence Fund
When Emerald Heights residents stop by the Coffee Shop for their morning "cup of Joe," they get a whole lot more than a jolt of caffeine and the selection of daily breakfasts available for just $2. They'll also get the sense of satisfaction that they are doing their part to provide their neighbors more financial security. Operated by residents for the benefit of residents in need, the Coffee Shop is a truly special place on campus. Click here to learn more.

Resident Blog: My So-Called Retirement |
| What's your plan, Dad?
That's what I need to know from my 91-year-old father. He still lives on his own, but he needs more and more help from my sister and me, and from hired caregivers. His recent fall and subsequent rehabilitation revived this long-standing question. What's the plan? I've learned there are ways to be helpful moving people forward in this decision-making process. And there are things that are distinctly unhelpful! Click here to learn more.
Visit Marilyn's blog anytime. And if you have a question or comment, please send her an e-mail. She'd love to hear from you!
