Greetings!

In this month's Connection, we're breaking ground on our latest remodeling project, and offering you "first dibs" on a repeat performance of our wildly successful Four-Course Conversations series. Mark your calendar and reserve your place at the table today. Very few spots remain!

CEO Lisa Hardy shares some photos from her early summer hiking adventures and offers her perspective on the construction project.

Then, resident blogger Marilyn Farrell tries to dispel common misconceptions about living in a retirement community.

Enjoy!

Excuse our mess! Major remodel of lobby and main entrance is underway.

As part of its ongoing commitment to remain a state-of-the-art community, Emerald Heights has embarked on a major remodel of its lobby and main entrance. Upgrades include:
  • Expanding the Living Room to encompass the current Library;
  • Moving the Living Room fireplace to a central location in the expanded room and adding more windows on the east wall for increased daylight and views into the courtyard water feature;
  • Relocating the Library to the current Game Room, a larger space;
  • Expanding the existing elevator lobby adjacent to the Living Room, adding a second fireplace and game tables as a temporary replacement for the Game Room;
  • Enlarging the Concierge desk; and
  • Making cosmetic upgrades to the Coffee Shop and Country Store.
During construction, which is expected to be complete this fall, the main lobby and interior hallways will be closed. A temporary front entrance and bypass hallways have been created for residents and guests, and the Country Store, Coffee Shop and Art Studio are accessible through outside entrances.

You can view photos of the construction process here.

RSVP today. Just a few spaces remain for our new Four-Course Conversations

When Four-Course Conversations debuted this spring, it was such a smashing success we couldn't accommodate all who wished to attend. We had nearly enough attendees to fill a second series, which we have now scheduled for July 21 and August 25.

We're filling the seats with the guests we couldn't seat in the first series and a few lucky Connection readers who RSVP here. But hurry! Seats are going fast. First come, first served.

About Four-Course Conversations
.

This two-day lunch series is designed to help you explore many aspects of moving to and living in a community like Emerald Heights.

Our dining staff will delight you with a series of delicious small-plate offerings, while you and your tablemates sink your teeth into some of the meatier issues surrounding the decision to move to a retirement community and how you'll adjust to life in your new home.

With each course, a different resident table host will arrive and serve up a round of questions to get the conversation started. You'll also get a chance to grill our staff members and pepper them with your remaining questions.

Reservations Required

Reserve your place at the table -- and a few for your friends. RSVP online by Tuesday, June 29. This is a special opportunity for Connection readers to book their seats before the invitation is extended to a wider audience. Don't miss out!

Come for both days or choose the one that best fits your schedule.

The walls come tumbling down

This is the summer of demolition and rebuilding! Early this month, construction crews began tearing things down -- both inside and out -- to make room for big things to come here at Emerald Heights.

Outside of Emerald Heights, the warmer weather has allowed me to continue my exploration of local hiking trails. What beautiful sights there are to see!

I welcome you to e-mail me with your comments and questions.

It's not all Bingo and rocking chairs!

Marilyn returns this month to share the funny reactions she gets from her peers whenever she mentions where she lives.

What are they thinking? Some react as though Marilyn has sentenced herself to be a prisoner in "the home."
