Residents give generously to the
Annual Hopelink Food Drive

For the ninth year in a row, Emerald Heights has participated in the Hopelink "End Summer Hunger" food drive -- a grassroots campaign that provides food for kids in North and East King County who normally receive free and reduced-fee breakfasts and lunches during the school year.

Last week, residents stepped up with food and cash donations for this worthy cause. By Friday, 1,578 pounds of food (estimated value of $2,367) were loaded into the community van and delivered to Hopelink, along with $2,360 in cash.

In 2009, the Emerald Heights community contributed 1,626 pounds of food (valued at $2,349) and $2,405 in cash donations. Overall, Hopelink raised nearly $170,000 in cash and food to help low-income families feed their children.

Preparing for our summer renovations

While the cold weather has limited my hiking to low elevations in recent months, I made a trip to Fragrance Lake Trail near Bellingham and also added a hiking adventure to my recent business trip to Arizona. Sabino Canyon, where the native Saguaro Cactus grows in abundance, offered a very different, very interesting hiking experience.

I also share some details about upcoming renovations and how the new Project Advisory & Communications Team will help our community adapt to the changes.
