Give a Unique and Meaningful Gift ~ a note from Dan McCleary ~
This
holiday season, honor someone in your family or a special friend with
the gift of expanding professional arts-in-education opportunities for
children in the Mid-South.
Tennessee Shakespeare Company's Barbara B. Apperson Angel Fund makes possible children's attendance at live Shakespeare performances, reaching more than 2,200 students during our fall production of A Midsummer Night's Dream.
Please
consider three informed, meaningful ways you can make a tax-deductible
contribution to this Fund to increase the number of Mid-South children
exposed to the majesty which is Shakespeare:
1. Use Your IRA
If
you are age 70 ½ or older, you can make a direct gift to a charitable
organization from your individual retirement account by the end of the
year.
The charitable IRA rollover lets you make a donation
directly to a charitable organization from your IRA without counting it
as income and paying taxes on
it. This approach is particularly beneficial if you don't itemize
deductions on your tax returns and, therefore, don't receive a tax
benefit for charitable contributions, or if you itemize your return but
have reached your charitable-giving limit.
If you are age 59 ½
or older, you may also consider a charitable donation from your IRA if
you no longer face a 10% penalty for taking early distributions. You
won't qualify for the tax break, but in many cases, the deduction you
earn will offset the additional tax.
2. Give Stocks and Bonds
Giving
appreciated shares of securities that you have held for more than a
year, and that are worth more now than when you paid for them, could be
a great way to re-balance your portfolio. Consider giving the
appreciated shares directly instead of liquidating the stock and
locking in a capital-gains tax.
3. Contribute from your Donor-Advised Fund
If
you have a donor-advised fund, your contribution of cash and other
assets worth a minimum of $5,000 to a charitable fund will provide you
with an immediate tax deduction upon donation.
If you would like to know more about the Barbara B. Apperson Angel Fund and how your generosity can make a positive impact in our community, please call (901-759-0620) or write me (danmccleary@gmail.com). Or if you would like to make an on-line contribution now, please click here.
On
behalf of Tennessee Shakespeare Company's Board of Directors, staff,
and Groundlings volunteers, please enjoy a safe and happy holiday
season.
Much love,
Dan
