Session 10 of Summer 2009 (August 2) is called "Personal faithfulness," with the faith focus "Faith is passed on through generations." The Bible story from 2 Timothy relates how Timothy's faith was encouraged by Lois, Eunice, and Paul. Children using the Multiage materials make a paper clip chain after hearing their teacher say: "Today we have the treasure of faith because many people kept passing it on and on." Parents and caregivers who are using Connect are guided in a variety of Responding options, including making a faith "family tree" and praying together for coming generations.

Sometime within the next few weeks, consider inviting a few parents and caregivers to share how they have
been encouraged in faith by others,
and how they hope to pass on their
faith to the next generation. Sharing could take place during worship, fellowship time, or in small group settings.

The session 10 Responding suggestions from Connect can be adapted and used as part of a teacher training session
as you plan for the new Sunday school year. For more ideas on teacher preparation, read "Prepare to be a
spiritual leader" and "Set up for success!" in the Fall 2009 Roundabout.

Help families link church and home
Fall 2009 TalkaboutThe Talkabout is a unique at-home resource with scriptures, prayers, discussion questions, and activities designed to
spark family faith talk and action around the weekly Bible stories. The Fall quarter's Talkabout is
a set of interlocking cards on the theme "Exile and Restoration." Look in your Fall order for a special
note about the Fall 2009 Talkabout to send home with parents and caregivers. This note introduces families to the quarterly theme and helps them use the Talkabout. Print one copy of the note
for each family, and distribute it with the Talkabout.

Gather 'Round is a Bible-based curriculum nurturing children, youth, and adults in becoming followers of Jesus: people who know and love God, interpret God's word, belong to God's gathered community, and share God's good news. It is a joint project of Brethren Press (Church of the Brethren) and Mennonite Publishing Network (Mennonite Church USA and Mennonite Church Canada).
