Happy Fall Everyone!
We have had an eventful summer and start of the school year at Ounce of Prevention Reading Center and EBLI! A multitude of new school districts, organizations, and individual clients are clamoring for EBLI training and instruction. For example, I will be heading to Baltimore in November to consult with an amazing, dynamic teacher of adults, many of whom are homeless. Connie Moore came to Michigan recently to be EBLI trained and, since her return to Maryland, is already positively impacting the literacy ability of many of her students.
Secondary administrators, mark your calendar to partake in a 1 day workshop presented by EBLI at MASSP in Lansing on November 10th. Learn about simple ways to help your staff dra matically increase ACT scores as well as the literacy performance of your secondary students in general. To learn more or sign up for the workshop click here. Also, look for the EBLI presentation at the Michigan ACT conference February 10, 2011. Currently, we are in the process of a video project that will provide footage of EBLI instruction in classrooms and with individual students that will support and help refine the practice of those who have been trained in EBLI. Our sincere thanks to Pasa Dera, a non-profit foundation out of Texas, for funding this project! Would you like a online educational gaming program to help your student(s) improve their reading and critical thinking skills? It is FREE during their Beta phase. Click here to sign up. Skatekids is extremely fun for kids and efficiently trains cognitive processing skills such as attention, planning, memory, sequencing, and simultaneous processing. Fine tuning these cognitive skills will result in improved academic performance! I have been fortunate to have been introduced to Pam Good, founder of Beyond Basics, a non-profit that has been working the past 8 years in inner city Detroit schools to bring children up to grade level in reading in 6 weeks. They also provide them with exposure to a variety of cultural and community enrichment opportunities. Beyond Basics is piloting EBLI in one of their schools and we are very pleased to be connected with this phenomenal organization. Click here to visit their web site and learn more about their inspiring work. A big thank you to everyone who is working diligently to help improve literacy for people of all ages. Together we will change the world!
With appreciation,
Nora Chahbazi, President
