Greetings!
Thank you to Mr. Hoffman and the band, orchestra and jazz band students for a wonderful holiday concert last Tuesday. They filled the halls with festive tunes as they practiced in the auditorium all week. The jazz band also performed at the "State of the Schools" luncheon hosted by the Chamber of Commerce. This was a wonderful opportunity for Washington to show off our talented students to the community.
Please remember to have students dress appropriately for winter weather. Elementary students will be going out for recess each day, weather permitting. If they want to play in the snow they will need boots, snow pants along with gloves.
Reminder Pick up Parents: Please pull up as far as you can before loading your students after school. This will help with the long line on the street. Remind your students to wait until you stop before they walk to the car (we'll remind them also). I do not want students chasing cars with ice and snow on the sidewalk. There is always a possibility that they might slip and fall. Please be very careful when pulling into the parking lot.
Please take time to enjoy your families and relax during winter break. We look forward a busy and productive new year when we return.
Our next newsletter will be sent out January 10th when we return.
News Update! Mrs. Hayes welcomed her new daughter into the world on 12/9/10 @8:30 pm. Her name is Ella Louise. Mom and baby are doing great. Mrs. Hayes will be spending some time off with her new family and return to school in March. Mr. Larson will be filling in for her while she is on leave.
Have a wonderful break! Mrs. Faber & Mrs. Hayes

News from the Gifted Office - Mrs. Beach
Spread the Word!
If you know of anyone, a neighbor, someone in your Sunday School class, a relative, etc., that might benefit from our program, please let them know about the following events:
Gifted Testing
Our regular winter eligibility testing is coming up. In addition to recommending friends, you might want to consider volunteering on one of the testing dates. We can use people to direct students and parents, check people in and answer questions or share your family's experiences with the program. Testing dates:
- Current Kindergarten students: January 22, 2011
- Current 1st - 4th graders: February 12, 2011
- Students currently in 5th - 10th grades: March 12, 2011
For more informaiton and/or a flyer, visit our Gifted Program website. If you would like to volunteer to help or speak on any or all of these dates, please contact Mary Makulec as noted above.
Gifted Forums
We had our second Gifted Forum, at Auburn Freshman Campus last Thursday. Despite the weather, we had quite a few families and teachers attend. In contrast to many public forums, i continue to be amazed at how thoughtful and respectful our speakers have been. I will be working to compile all data and comments and will be posting it on the Gifted Program website soon.
If you were not able to attend, you can always send your feedback via email to Mrs. Faber, Mr. Bay, Dr. Gaffey or Mrs. Beach.

Attention 8th Grade Parents:
Our 8th grade field trip to the Holocaust Museum on Friday, January 7th has been changed to Tuesday, February 8th . This change will benefit our students, as we should be actively engaged in World War II at this time. The Rockford Coach busses will be leaving at 7:45 AM from school, as this will be an all day field trip. Please begin thinking on how your child will arrive to school at 7:30 that morning. We will leave Skokie, IL at 1:30 PM, so we should arrive in time for the students to be dismissed at 3:15, our regular dismissal time. The cost is $25.00 per student. I will be looking for nine parent chaperones to accompany us. There is no cost for the chaperones. Please let Mrs. Russey know if you would like to participate in this wonderful field trip.
