Greetings!
Middle School Report Cards have been generated and should be arriving in your house soon, if you haven't received them already. Please remember to contact your child's teacher with any questions or concerns.
Thank you to all the families that have attended conferences thus far. We will have one more night of conferences, November 9th from 4-7pm. Conferences are an important time for you to become a part of your child's educational team and learn more about making your child successful. We look forward to seeing you on Tuesday night!
Just a couple reminders that we would like you to review with your children. There should not be any eating or drinking on the school bus at any time. Cell phones are also not allowed to be used on the school bus. Students should keep their phones in their backpacks and out of sight.
Also, please remind students that play fighting is not allowed at school. We have been seeing a lot of play fighting in our middle school, especially with our sixth grade students. Play fighting is listed in the district's discipline code. Please talk to your child about keeping their hands and feet to themselves.
Have a wonderful week! Mrs. Faber & Mrs. Hayes

ECO-CLUB News
Our fourth and fifth grade ECO-Club members attended our first two meetings this month. At present, we have about 27 members. They are very enthusiastic and ready to make some change.
We got moving last Monday by gathering outside, during our meeting time and did a school grounds clean up. The students wanted to specifically tackle the wooded area near the playground. Three garbage bags later we succeeded in a decent clean up. They were quite happy with the results even though we did it within the 15 minute recess time period.
Our next endeavor is on a larger scale. The club members have decided to collect items for Noah's Ark Animal Shelter. Noah's Ark is Rockford's only no kill shelter. The items collected are ones needed to clean and feed those animals kept there. We began Wednesday, October 27, and will continue until Friday, November 19. The items needed include:
garbage bags
bleach
liquid laundry detergent
vinyl or latex gloves
rechargeable AA batteries
NEW mops/brooms/brushes/scouring pads
Postage stamps
Office Supplies (white copy paper)
canned or dry dog and cat food (for their pet pantry to give to those in need)
paper towels
Collection boxes are located near the front of the school. Check out Noah's Ark website: www.noahsarkanimals.org
ECO-Club's next meeting is November 1st.
Any questions? Please contact me, Mrs. Woodin.

Winter Apparel Drive
Builder's Club is having an annual winter apparel drive. We are looking for new, nearly new, or clean coats, gloves, hats, etc. Our goal is to get 60 coats because last year we received a little above 40 coats. The priority of the coats and other winter apparels are to go to needy families in the school, but also we are donating them to Elizabeth House and Rockford Public Schools. We greatly stress that the items donated are CLEAN. Please help us reach our goal to keep needy families warm this winter. The bins will be located at all the entrances, the main office and outside of the library. The drive is going on November 8th to November 16th.
If you have questions please contact,
Mr. Aures: tim.aures2@rps205.com
Mrs. Maklezow: debra.maklezow@rps205.com
As a reminder, Mrs.Maklezow would greatly appreciate the donation of paper towels and wet wipes.

6th Grade Science News All 6th grade students are beginning a unit studying the History of Earth. I will be using a new program called FOSS this year. FOSS is an active learning science program for teaching science in interesting and engaging ways. Each student will need a binder for FOSS. The best type of binder to purchase is a 1/2 inch binder. The school store has binders on sale for $2.00 each.
Each FOSS Module is broken down into investigations. The Earth History Unit has eight investigations. It is anticipated that this unit should take approximately 12 weeks to complete all of the investigations. From time to time I will be requesting materials that will be needed to complete the investigations. I would greatly appreciate any assistance that you could give to me to help make this program a success.
I am looking forward to many weeks of exciting investigations with the Earth History Module. If you have any questions or comments please fell free to contact me.
Mr. Smith
