Wolf Eyes

Greetings!

This week, October 25th -Oct.29th is our Spirit Week. Student Council members have decided to have a competition among elementary students and middle school students to see whose class has the most school spirit. Teachers will be given one form to complete daily to show how many students present each day have dressed according to the daily themes. The elementary class and the school class with the most school spirit will have a donut and juice party on Friday, November 5th.

The daily themes are:

Monday - Decades Day (any decade, example: 1970's-wear Hippie type outfits such as bell-bottoms, tie-dyed shirts, beads, straight hair, long bangs, etc. However, if girls wear mini-skirts, better have leggings underneath)
Tuesday - Team Jersey Day (or any sport t-shirt, sweatshirt, is OK)
Wednesday - Pink Day (yes, even boys can wear pink. Look at all the pink many sport teams wore last week)
Thursday - Nerd Day
Friday- Crazy Day (crazy hair, socks, mismatched clothing, shoes, etc)

We hope everyone will participate in this year's activities!

Have a wonderful week!
Mrs. Faber & Mrs. Hayes

Elementary Music

Save the date!  Thursday, Oct. 28th at 6 PM

We will be doing a music program featuring the 1st and 3rd graders. We will be doing a multi-cultural program with songs in other languages. If students have folk costumes or authentic dress from other cultures, they are encouraged to wear them that night. Otherwise just dress nice (school picture nice). NO HEELS (trip hazard on choral risers). We will be doing songs in Spanish, Japanese, and African. Some songs are in English, but the tune is from other countries. The third graders will be doing some songs they did at the Peace Plaza in September.

Elementary Art

This year has been busy in art class for the 2nd and 4th grades! 2nd grade has covered concepts such as  visual texture, overlapping,  and still life.  This week we asked the question "How does your pumpkin feel today?" The second graders are doing a fantastic job on all of their art projects, I am proud of all of their work.

The fourth grade classes have covered concepts such as visual texture, overlapping, biomorphic shapes, still life, fall leaf mosaics, and this week they created the most fantastic positive and negative faces which are displayed in the hallways!  Nice job by all classes!  All of the students and staff have been most welcoming at Washington, it's a great school!

Mrs. Carolyn St. Angel

Third grade students are learning how to weave around a paper cup. They are using a the over - under stitch with a variety of yarns and will add embellishments such as: feathers, beads and pipe cleaners.

Grade 1 just completed beautiful hand - leaves where they learned how to trace, cut and glue a collage along with finger printing in the background. The fall colors abound in these mixed media pictures.

Fifth graders are developing colored pencil drawings of their favorite school memory. They will be printed on a tile and permanently displayed at Washington.

Middle School Movie Night

There will be a movie night for Middle School on Friday from 6:00pm - 8:00pm. This is the same night as Monster Mash for the elementary students. The movie the students selected is Haunting in Connecticut. Since it is PG13, if a student is interested in attending, they must obtain a permission slip from their homeroom teacher on Thursday or Friday, and present it signed by a parent or guardian at the door in order to be admitted into the building. The $1.00 admission charge will be for one snack item.

Middle School Art

Grade 6 students are beginning a color blending painting which incorporates leaf patterns and found object printing. Sculptural coiled basketry has been quite a challenge for grade 7. The figure 8 stitch and unusual yarns will surely make the fiber arts pieces a must see when they are displayed in the art room and the library. Check out the acrylic canvas board paintings by grade 8. They chose a realistic or abstract theme and learned a variety of painting techniques.
