Greetings!
This has been an outstanding year at Washington Academy. With this being our second year in the building, we had a lot of routines and details ironed out. We were able to focus on educating your child(ren) to the best of our ability. And, it looks like our efforts paid off. Preliminary ISAT scores are in and our students appear to have done a terrific job. We will be releasing the official scores to you when they are available.
If your child did not attend school last Friday, their report card and other personal items are available in our office. The office will be officially open until June 18. It will be open on and off over the summer. If you plan to stop in after that date, please call first.
Fall registration will take place on August 16 & 17. Some time early in August, you will receive a packet of registration materials in the mail. This will afford you a chance to complete some of our paperwork at your leisure at home before coming to school. When you arrive at school, you will receive Elementary class assignments and Middle School student schedules.
Our annual back-to-school picnic will be held on Monday, August 23 from 4:00 - 6:00. We will be having a special presentation for new students to Washington and Student Ambassadors at 5:30 in the Auditorium that evening. Hope to see you there!

| Summer Reading |
We hope you are excited about your upcoming summer reading adventures. Students now have many choices. Of course, they can continue to read the books and magazines they are passionate about. They can also read the books generously distributed by the district. They can choose from the many suggestions available on our website under Summer Reading.
You also should have received a letter with your child's report card listing the books we would like them to read over the summer to prepare for learning experiences in the fall. If your list gets misplaced, you can access it on our website. We have alerted local bookstores and the libraries that there might be a high demand for our titles.
We know there is almost nothing that will benefit a student more than reading and reading well. In fact, we encourage our students to read, read, read. It will help them, not only in school, but also in their future workplace and life.
Enjoy! |
| Communication over the Summer | |
Things are always happening in this district and at our school. Please check for these emails over the summer. We want to keep you as up to date and informed as possible.
Plus, the district is changing all websites this summer. Please be prepared for limited accessibility as we transfer all information to the new system. We do not yet have a time table for this switch. |
| Athletics & Activities |
Sports Physicals
It's not too early to think about getting your sports physicals for the 2010-2011 school year. You must have a physical on file with the athletic director prior to being able to try out for a sport. At Washington, the athletic director is Mr. Smith. Freshman at Auburn (or any other high school) will have the same requirement.
MS Football
If you are planning to play football in the fall on the West/Washington team, think about attending football camp this summer. It will be held on July 19-22 from 4:00-6:30 p.m. You can contact coach Kenny Horton at 815-969-0393 for more information.
Basketball Camps
Basketball camp started this morning. Our basketball coach, Cal Carlson, is running basketball camps again this summer. They were hugely successful last year.
Camps will be available for girls and boys. Students will pay $50 for the camp. They will also receive a basketball and a T-shirt. Camp will run June 7-10 for students in Grades 3-5. Camp for students in Grades 6-8 will run June 14-17.
Fall Sports
Middle School Soccer and Cross Country begin on August 26. Be sure to have a sports physical on file before then.
High School Football, Golf, Cross Country, Volleyball, Girls Tennis, Boys Soccer, Girls Cheerleading & Poms and Girls Swimming begin on August 11. Be sure to have a physical on file before then. |
