Awards Dinner Date Set: Maine Diner to Receive Accolades in March
The Henry Family will receive the esteemed 2010 Restaurateur of the Year Award from the Maine Restaurant Association Tuesday, March 30th at the Holiday Inn by the Bay in Portland. The awards presentation celebrates the culinary achievements of the most illustrious restaurants and chefs in the state and is celebrated annually.
This is the first time the Maine Diner has received the acclaim of the Maine Restaurant Association. This prestigious award is based on nominations to the Maine Restaurant Association, how long a business has been a member of the association, the contributions to the organization, the restaurant's local reputation and how the community feels about the business.
Noted for the long-standing excellence of their home-cooked meals and hometown hospitality far and wide, the Maine Diner has celebrated a proud history of food service to the community surpassing significant milestones such as their 25th Silver Anniversary in the business and service to more than 5 million customers. In addition to receiving local acclaim, this spring the Maine Diner was the only New England restaurant chosen to showcase its hallmark seafood chowder in their first visit to the New Orleans Food Festival in March.
Brothers Myles and Dick Henry who have operated the family business fueled with their family's recipes say it is their staff at the Maine Diner who is most deserving of the award. They have kept a steady crew employed since their inception and have weathered economic recessions, drawing the praise of Maine Governor John Baldacci.
"You can't generate this type of excellence and handle this type of volume without devoted team players who work together and go that extra mile," Myles Henry said. "They are magnificent and deserve this award as much as anyone."
