| Photographs of the Month - White Tank Mountains Regional Park |
It is once again spring time in the desert, and every year the wildflowers seem to explode from nowhere. With the new flowers popping up it reminded us of the spectacular flower season of last year and the fact that we had a number of photographs that we had not published. So this months photographs come from the White Tank Mountains Regional Park taken last Easter.
 | Black Canyon Trail
| The White Tank Mountains Park offers over 25 miles of great hiking trails. One of the most popular is the Waterfall Trail.
This trail begins with a wide path that gives you a great view of the desert foliage. Off to the side of the trail you can see boulders with petroglyphs that were created up to 10,000 years ago. The Hohokam Indians lived in this area from 500 - 1100 AD.

| Shortly after passing the petroglyphs the trail begins to climb up a box canyon. The trail ends at a large bowl in the rock that holds water, this formation is referred to as a tank. This tank is surrounded on three sides by white limestone and is fed by a waterfall that runs after heavy rains. Tanks such as these that the Hohokam people used for water is where the park gets its name.

Going Green - Solazyme
|
|
Each month we like to highlight information that we found to be interesting in the area of green technology.
Two years ago we featured Solazyme in our Going Green segment, so we thought this month we would revisit them to see what has changed.
Solazyme produces renewable oils from algae for use in biodiesel and jet fuel. Their diesel is the first algae derived fuel to be successfully road tested in unmodified vehicles and their jet fuel has been certified for use by the US Navy. These are huge strides in two short years. They are well on their way to help reduce our demand for foreign oil and reduce green house gases at the same time.
They have also started two new product lines - cooking oils and skin care products. Since these are both oil based, this is the next logical step. With all of their success today, Solazyme announced that it has filed with the SEC to become a publicly traded company. For full details see www.solazyme.com
