Photographs of the Month - Valley Of Fire
|
As we all know Arizona is known for it's fantastic red sandstone formations. However, there are some very nice places outside of the state that have very remarkable formations as well. One of these locations is Valley of Fire State Park just north of Las Vegas. Map

We had planned to spend a few days here then move on to a couple other places for photographs, however we were so taken with this location we spent the entire week there.
Valley of Fire gets is name from the red sandstone formations that seem to jump out of the surrounding desert landscape. The formations glow fire red when the sun is low at sunrise and sunset.
If you did not know it was there you might just miss it. As its name implies it is a valley and the formations are only visible from the west side. If you are coming in from any other direction you will not see anything until you drive into the valley. Valley of Fire is Nevada's oldest state park, it was founded in 1935 and covers 34,800 acres. Even though it is only a state park, the formations rival that of other national parks. As it is a state park it is much more open than other red rock locations. In fact, some the most spectacular formations are in the campgrounds. We camped in one of the less developed places and had our own private box canyon to stay in. The parking spot was very long and we were able to back into the canyon and be surrounded on three sides by 100 foot red sandstone walls.
 | Dinosaur Rock
| As the sandstone formations and dunes were formed over 150 million years ago, it did not take too much imagination to visualize the image of a dinosaur when we spotted this rock formation.

Going Green - Echo Solar
|
|
Each month we like to highlight information that we found to be interesting in the area of green technology.
This month we are happy to announce that our home studio is 100% solar powered. As we live in a place where the sun shines almost every day it makes sense to have solar power. There are a number of systems on the market today, but we wanted more than just electricity. As our home is new it has great insulation. This is wonderful in most cases except that at night when there was no breeze our house would not cool down. This caused the air conditioner to run more than we felt was needed.
To solve this issue we selected the EchoSolar system. This system not only generates electricity but will bring in cooler or warmer air from outside as it is available. Another huge bonus is that fresh purified air is brought into your home about eight hours a day. A solar hot water heater was also included in this system. This combination is 25% more efficient than standard solar products. This system also provides a web based portal to monitor and manage your heating and cooling settings and to see how much benefit your system is providing you. An iPhone and iPad application is available as well.
Please contact us if you want more information on this system and/or information on the local installer we used. As you can tell, we are very excited about this and we'd love to tell you about it!
