There is something about ghost towns that draws us in.  They stand as evidence of man's eternal optimism, building towns in some of the most challenging areas with the hopes of great success.  There is just something appealing about exploring the stark remains of a once bustling town.  There are a surprising number of ghost towns still in existence, Ghosttowns.com has a very compressive list. Most of these are just ruins or have a few buildings remaining.   As we live in Northern California we are lucky to be near one of the best preserved ghost towns - Bodie. Bodie is now a state park and kept in a state of "Arrested Decay".  This is one of our favorite places to go and photograph.  We love the color of the weathered wood, the large number of buildings still standing and that many of the buildings still have furnishings.

Here are some samples of our new Bodie Photos

bodie_roadBesides visiting the ghost town, this is also a great place to get away from it all.  er_bodieAbove Bodie, on Bodie-Masonic road (4WD recommended) there is a primitive camping location on BLM land on a high plateau. The photo on the left is of the road and the one on the right is of our campsite.

The night we stayed there it was a moonless night and the stars were outstanding.  We were awakened the next morning at dawn by range cattle moving through the area.
Going Green

reflectionsIn keeping with our company motto of "Appreciation of nature leads to preservation", each month we highlight an article or product we are excited about.

Last month we highlighted a local company that was working on renewable fuels from Algae.

        Oak Reflections

It appears that Algae fuels are about to make their way into the main stream.  Several companies are currently or about to build full scale production plants as outlined in the story Pond Scum to Fuel.

I know that pond scum does not sound that interesting; however M.Glen Kertz CEO of Valcent Products Inc. does a great job of explaining this new technology in this short video The Power of Algae
Please check out our new website and let us know any comments or suggestions you have!  Your comments on our website and photographs will always result in improving our business.  We love to hear from you!

Also we take requests! If you have a favorite place you want a photograph of, drop us an email to submit your request.
Sincerely,
