Palm Sunday, April 1 Activities
Easter Egg Hunt
Children ages 18 months to kindergarten are invited to an Easter Egg hunt on Sunday, April 1 during the 8:50 worship service. The Easter egg hunt will be held during the children's church time. Parents are welcome to stay with their children for this event. Following worship, children can be picked up in Whittler Hall.
Downtown Palm Parade and Worship
Join us for an ecumenical Palm Sunday celebration as we unite with other churches in the downtown area for a Palm Parade and Worship. On April 1, there will be no Sunday school (with the exception of Adult Bible Study). All adults and families are invited to meet in the sanctuary for a time of music before we take our palms and parade to Broadway where we will meet the other churches and have a brief time of worship. This is a wonderful way to capture the spirit of the day. Make this a part of your family's Lenten experience!
Note: Children's, youth, and adult Sunday School classes will NOT be meeting on Palm and Easter Sundays (except Adult Bible Study).

Calling all Greeters!
We need extra hospitality for both Palm Sunday and Easter Sunday. If you are able to greet before one of the services, please contact Ann Merrifield at amerrifield@dwfs.us.

Change from Our Children

Thanks to everyone who added their change to the children's Noisy Offering during March. Using this as an additional opportunity to Praise God, the children have been hard at work gathering change to be used for our capital campaign. With a goal of $600, our children, with your help, raised a grand total of $853.10. Proof positive that something small can make a big difference!!

College-Age Haiti Water Project
Two members of the United Methodist Conference staff, Jeff Baker and the Rev. Karen Hayden, will be leading a group of 18-25-year-olds to Haiti for a clean water mission during the week of May 23-30, 2012. Six college-age persons from MUMC have expressed interest in attending: Kiara Lanier, Amanda Hargraves, Kristen Thackery, Nicholas Jain, Cameron Ward and Charlie Davis. Generous scholarships are being made available to these students through Koinonia. Information on the trip/project may be found at http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dJxnrPKnGR8. This will be a survey/exploration team for two future college-age teams to Haiti in the coming year. Please pray for God's blessings to be upon these students as they undertake this life-changing experience!

Festival of Sharing

The Festival of Sharing pack for April is the Personal Hygiene Pack. Cost of the kit is $20. Click here for a list of the supplies that go into each kit.

Food Donations for Saturday Morning Breakfast

If you would like to help with the breakfasts in April but are unable to attend, consider offering assistance by donating breakfast items! Please drop off donations of fruit (apples, bananas, oranges), granola bars, hard boiled eggs, string cheese, cereal, yogurt cups, snack cracker packs or gallons of milk or juice, to the church office labeled "Saturday Morning Breakfast."

Geraniums for Sale
Just in time for Mother's Day, the Breakfast Circle will sell geraniums on Friday, April 30, from 11am-5:30pm; Saturday, May 1, from 9am-noon; and Sunday, May 2, from 9am until sold out. Strawberry Hill Farms is supplying these beautiful plants, which will be in the usual assortment of bright colors plus maybe some new color choices. Be sure to shop early while the selection is good.

Giving Stocks to MUMC
Please notify Lois in the church office when you intend to gift stock to the church. It would be helpful to include the name of the stock and number of shares. A few weeks ago the church received confirmation of the sale of Travelers Inc. stock through one of the church's brokerage firms. They are not required to provide the name of the donor so therefore this gift was unidentified with a name or how the gift was to be applied. Your help in resolving this issue would be greatly appreciated. Please call Lois at 443-3111 to confirm the name of the brokerage firm and number of shares.

Lenten Prayer Breakfasts

Missouri UMC hosts this week's Lenten breakfast for the Columbia community  from 7-8am on Wednesday April 4. Surplus funds from the suggested donation of $1 will support the Interfaith Day Center. Bring non-perishable food for the Russell Chapel CME Food Pantry.

  • April 6 (Good Friday) - First Presbyterian (16 Hitt St.)

Ludhiana Benefit Dinner

The "Taste of India" benefit dinner for the Ludhiana Christian Medical College and Hospital will be held at Missouri UMC, on Sunday evening, April 29th, at 6pm. The evening will include an Indian dinner and a 20 minute program featuring Indian culture has been planned by the MUMC Ludhiana Task Force. The meal will be cooked by Max Marble and task force members. There will be a free-will offering received for the ministry of the Medical College and Hospital, but there will be no charge for the meal. Reservations will be limited to the first 50 persons. Call the church office at 443-3111 to sign up.

Mission Possible!
Thanks to several families in our children's ministry who lend a hand packing Buddy Packs at the Food Bank on Saturday, March 17. Yay to our children who are helping our community!

Mozambique Notes

The Mozambique VIM team will be presenting Bibles and hymnals in Portuguese to the Chokwe UMC when we visit them in June. We are asking for your help in making this purchase. They will cost $10 each and will include a book plate indicating the name of the donor. On April 1 and April 15, we will be accepting donations in the Connector during the morning worship and SS times. Please make your checks out to MUMC with "Mozambique Bibles and hymnals" on the memo line in order to claim the donation on your taxes. Also designate if your donation is for Bibles or hymnals. If you cannot contribute on the Sundays that we will be in the Connector,  mail checks to Caryl Bryan, 3413 Whitney Ct, 65203, or Todd Oberlin, 4813 Aztec Blvd, 65202. Team member Elsie Heller will also be selling her book, Burton Is Not Going To School, with all proceeds going to the Mozambique VIM team.
MUMC's 2012 VIM team will travel to Mozambique June 12-26. Click here to read their blog.

Room at the Inn 2012
Room at the Inn came to a close on March 12. Even in a smaller facility, hundreds of volunteers still gave their time, talents and resources to provide overnight shelter for the homeless community. More churches and organizations participated in this year's effort than last.

Thanks to Shannon Stewart, who stayed nightly at the shelter for the 2 ½ months it was open. Thanks to Janet Schisser for her leadership of the shelter's needs and volunteers. And a special thanks to Mr. Dave Fenton. Mr. Fenton owns the property that housed the shelterr. He donated the use of his space so that we had the opportunity to get more people into rehab as well as provide a safe place to sleep. The gift from Mr. Fenton allowed for many stories of kindness and care.

Thank you also to all those that volunteered time, made meals, and purchased food and supplies. The leadership and risk-taking mission of Missouri UMC has led to ownership of the homeless issue by a much larger faith community. Bless everyone for their efforts and as the community moves closer to purchasing a new day center. I pray that a new emergency center will come to fruition for this upcoming winter. --Rev. Keith Vessell
