Most of us keep our house clean, our car clean but how many people keep the inside of their computer clean? 

 

This story may supprise some people, it even supprised me! I had a client that wanted to purchase a new front desk computer because their current one was locking up 5 times a day. I decided to open the machine and look inside prior to getting a new one. Much to my supprise all the fans and air vents were completely blocked by dust and lint. After I cleaned the fans and vents the computer had the proper airflow and no more lockups! I was amazed how much lint was in the computer and how the blocked it really was. 

 

So, depending on your environment I would look inside your pc no less than once every 6 months.

We try and think ahead, we try and bring everything that we "think" we need. But, how about that report that you saved to your desktop and forgot to print. Remote connectivity is easy and most of the time free. Not too long ago remote access needed to be setup by an IT professional, now with a little knowledge you do it your self. Sites like gotomypc.com and logmein.com are two that we frequently use at Left Brain Techs, Inc. Logmein.com has a free version that gives you a lot of options, if you need more options you can get the "Pro" version for a very reasonable $60 a year.

 

Sites like these are particularly nice when setting up multiple computers at one site. To setup multiple computers using Window XP remote desktop was time consuming and difficult to keep track of. Now, you can manage multiple computers at one site, group them and give access to other people with just several clicks of a button.

 

Not only can you remote into your computer using another computer you can now use your PDA to connect to your home or office PC!
