Schedule month test restores from your backups to make sure that they are viable! You don't want to find out your backup hasn't been running when you really need the backup.

July 2009 News Letter

The last newsletter was how to speed up your older computer. Well, after you spent the time speeding up your old computer, you now have to protect that computer with a warranty. I've seen too many clients let their warranty expire on their workstations and even their server. I've also experienced their pain when the warranty expires and the manufacturer no longer supports the hardware and doesn't stock the computer parts anymore.
 
A warranty guarantee's that the manufacture will have in stock the parts that are covered. Not only will the manufacture have them in stock they hold them for you! I went to purchase a server motherboard from Dell for a server that was down. Dell said they had them in stock but they were unable to sell the part because they were on hold for the customers that had warranties. Not only did I have to track down the motherboard, I had to track down the back-plane, controller, power distribution board, etc. All because the warranty had expired. We spent as much in spare parts as it would have cost to replace the server.
 
So, my motto is, learn from the pain of others! You don't want to experience this yourself.....
