| BCF announces 2011 scholarship winners |
On Friday, BCF announced $169,500 in scholarship awards to 66 Maryland students. The awards were announced at BCF's third annual scholarship luncheon, sponsored by the Baltimore Ravens at M&T Bank Stadium. View event photos
The amount awarded represents a 50% increase over last year's total, thanks to several scholarships funded by private donors and a new scholarship program established by Legg Mason to provide support to students attending community colleges in Maryland.
Inspirational speakers for the gathering of students, their families, and scholarship donors included BCF scholarship recipients Dominique Duval, a rising senior studying public health at Johns Hopkins University (winner of the Walther H. Feldmann Scholarship), and Kelsie Hall (pictured left), an aspiring nurse and rising sophomore at the University of Maryland, College Park (winner of the Digital Harbor High School Community Scholarship and past recipient of the Harry Z. Isaacs Scholarship). Joining Duval and Hall at the podium was a special guest speaker, former Ravens kicker Matt Stover, who spoke to BCF's scholars about hard work and integrity.
Awards from fourteen scholarship funds at BCF range from $750 to $12,500 each and go to students planning to pursue or currently pursuing higher education.
