No Distance Is Too Far to Save a Life

The ASBP is proud to have dedicated donors who, no matter what, roll up their sleeves to donate blood every chance they get. Such donor is Major (Ret) R.B. Sayers of Greenvalley, AZ. "He is an incredible person. Like clockwork, he donates every 56 days regardless of the 90 mile commute," explains Carmen Dietrich-Williams, ASBP Blood Donor Recruiter, Fort Bliss, TX.

Why would someone drive 90 miles to donate blood? A retired Army Major, Mr. Sayers knows the importance of readily available blood and therefore takes the extra miles to ensure that it is available when needed most. Since the ASBP blood drives closest to Greenvalley are conducted 90 miles away at Fort Huachuca, NM, Mr. Sayers gladly makes the trip, but not alone. Recently he has gotten his wife, Elizabeth, to join in on this routine road trip to donate blood.

The ASBP would like to thank all donors who take the time to ensure that our men and women in uniform and their families worldwide receive the blood they need.
From The FBI to Our Warriors

What started as a young lieutenant's recount of a firefight in Afghanistan that led to the death of his commanding officer and wounding of his comrades, inspired a group of FBI employees to organize a blood drive. In collaboration with the ASBP blood donor center at Bethesda Naval Medical Center, the FBI hosted its first blood drive in March 2008. Overwhelming support from FBI Headquarters and the Washington Field Office prompted a second blood drive, which was held 19 November 2008, once again at the Headquarters.

"The FBI is proud to have the opportunity to support the ASBP and the brave men and women who benefit from this program," stated Executive Assistant Director J. Stephen Tidwell of the FBI's Criminal, Cyber, Response, and Services Branch in a recent press release.

The ASBP would like to thank its partners at the FBI for all their support and we look forward to future successes.

Lighten Up This Holiday Season

The season of cheer and joy is fast approaching, and many of our regular donors will travel to spend time with their loved ones during the holidays. As they are unable to visit our blood donor centers to donate, the military blood supply can run low. In an effort to raise awareness of the common seasonal flux of the blood supplies, the ASBP Marketing team has developed a holiday campaign "Lighten Up This Holiday Season".

If you would like to see more of this spirited campaign, visit the ASBP Web site to schedule your next donation appointment at a donor center near you, where you can view the campaign posters.

During this time of holiday cheer, gift giving, and warm hearted family traditions, please remember that one hour of your time could mean that someone who is sick or injured will have the chance to spend time with their loved ones as well.
