Article - Wisdom from Deepak Chopra
I recently returned from an IIN conference in NYC, and wanted to share some wisdom from Deepak Chopra who was just one of our awesome speakers
Questions to ask yourself everyday (don't need to know the answers, just ask the questions)
1. Who am I?
2. What do I want?
3. What is a peak experience to me?
4. What's my life purpose?
5. What kind of contribution do I want to make to myself and to the world?
6. What is a meaningful relationship to me?
7. How do I contribute to these relationships I have?
8. What are my unique skills and talents? and how do I use them to serve humanity and the world?
9. Who are my heroes? In history, myth, religion (my archetypes)?
10. What is my story?
Deepak spoke about leadership, telling a lovely story about an encounter his family had with Nehru, then Prime Minister of India, when Deepak was a boy. Against all odds, but with great intention, his mother caught the attention of Nehru in a crowd of millions. Nehru always sported a red rose in the buttonhole of his Nehru jacket and on spotting Deepak's mother in her beautiful sari, he took the rose from his jacket and tossed it to her.
What she did with that rose was the lesson in leadership. She gave it a special room in the house where friends and neighbors could come to see it, then when it was fading, she held a special ceremony to share the rose with her friends, giving each one a petal to take home.
She regarded that rose as higher in value than gold, because she knew that it stood for the dream that Nehru had for his people. According to Deepak, all great leaders have a dream for their people. Gandhi and Martin Luther King, for example, had a dream that went beyond their personal wishes to the ability to hold that dream for others.
What is your greater dream?

Food Focus: Brown Rice
Brown rice, with its sweet nutty flavor, provides four times the
amount of insoluble fiber found in white rice because it is a whole grain that
has not been stripped of its natural bran covering. It contains an impressive
number of vitamins and minerals such as concentrated B vitamins (which help
nervous systems and mental depression), niacin, magnesium, manganese,
phosphorus, selenium and even some vitamin E. This whole grain also contains a
small amount of high-quality protein in the form of the amino acid lysine,
which helps boost the body's ability to fight viruses, especially those that
cause cold sores.
In each
grain of brown rice exists a matrix of whole, unrefined energy and nutrition.
It is a complex carbohydrate and therefore burns slowly in the body, providing
a steady stream of long-lasting energy while increasing the brain's levels of
serotonin, the chemical responsible for the feeling of well-being. Those who
consistently eat brown rice report steady energy and an overall feeling of calm
and balance in their daily lives.
For brown
rice and whole grains in general, the majority of digestion occurs in the mouth
through chewing and exposure to saliva. For optimal nutrition and assimilation,
it is vital to chew your rice well and with awareness. A great meditation is to
find a calm place, without distractions, to sit down for your meal. Make it a
habit to chew each bite 20 times or more. See how this simple practice can help
your digestion and overall focus for the rest of your day.
