Quote

"The decline of a true taste for food is the beginning of a decline in national culture as a whole. When people have lost their authentic personal taste, they have lost their personality, and become the instruments of other people's wills."

- Robert Graves in an address at MIT, "On Human Culture" 1966

Welcome

MolyvosI went to New York City this weekend to visit a good friend, where I reinforced my mission as a Holistic Health Counselor, to remind people that good health is not all about self-sacrifice and self-denial. It's about eating well, which entails enjoying good, high quality foods with good company.

Yes, we ate our way around NYC this weekend - from Avegolemeno soup at Molyvos (photo at right) to Caravan of Dreams (where I had the raw/live avocado/coconut soup and a seaweed salad) to Mas (farmhouse), where the striped sea bass was delicious. These restaurants serve some of the healthiest, cleanest, local fare in NYC, making our meals that much more enjoyable.

On Sunday we brunched at Cafe Cluny and I had an early dinner of mussels mariniere at Brasserie Cognac before catching my flight.

The point is, great food is sustenance, it's nourishing, pleasurable and satisfying. Food is supposed to fill you up. Wine is supposed to make you feel warm and good. Real food is a part of real life, and we eliminate it at our peril.

Remember - the body trumps the mind. Don't try to outsmart it, control it or deny it. Try to cooperate with your body. Ask it what it needs from you - and listen. Your body loves you... feed it food that loves it back.
