Quote

"Nothing supports the healing process like people being in joy and creativity, spending time with people they love, laughing, etc., and nothing shuts it down like judgment, skepticism, and fear."

- Sol Luckman, editor of DNA Monthly and cofounder of the Phoenix Center for Regenetics.

Welcome

Welcome to the winter season and the return of my newsletter. The pumpkins are ripe, and the last of the persimmons have fallen from the tree. Persimmons were early this year for some reason, maybe something to do with all the rain. I have seen years where the fruit stubbornly clung to the tree until after Thanksgiving, but not this year. Isn't it interesting how Nature constantly changes - even from season to season?

Speaking of change, you'll notice the newsletter has been redesigned, and soon we'll be announcing the relaunch of my newly renamed business and web site, www.intuitive-wellness.com. (Go ahead and drop by now for a sneak peek!) I decided to change the name to better reflect my nutritional counseling style, which is focused on wellness and channelled through my intuition.

Feature Article: Being a Flickering Flame

Candice Pert describes the human being as "more like a flickering flame than a hunk of meat". I love this description as I find it freeing. If I am too physical, too mired in the little miseries of being physical, I feel trapped and punished. If I see myself as a flickering flame, I know I am free to change anything at anytime. Like a flame, I am constantly changing, and so change is the norm, not the exception. It is impossible not to change, and so the trick becomes to consciously choose how I will change and why.

If you are a candle, you have a form. You can be tall and cylindrical, or short and wide, or round and smooth. And you can melt, but you don't morph.

But what shape is a flame? We can say it is sorta wide at the base and tapering toward the top, but one breeze can make it the opposite - wide on top and narrow at the base. One breeze can cause a flame to take many different shapes in the duration of one moment.

To say that we are like a flickering flame is also to say that we contain a spark of the divine. And so, we are not merely physical, but also go beyond the physical. The flame that we are is what's behind the physical, illuminating it, shining through.

The Slow Burn Fitness Revolution: The Slow Motion Exercise That Will Change Your Body in 30 Minutes a Week, Eades & Eades - recommended by Dr. Bruce West, I'm trying out this once a week exercise. Started last week, so far so good, I'm taking it really slow. Still had some soreness in my muscles, but not too bad. I'll continue to blog about it as I progress or find another exercise I like even better.

Recipes: Brownies

Ingredients:
1 1/2 c. carob semisweet chips*
2 c. garbanzo beans, drained and rinsed
4 eggs
1 c. sugar*
1/2 tsp baking powder

Instructions:
Heat oven to 350 degrees.
In a small bowl melt carob chips in microwave for 2mins.
In blender or food processor, combine beans and eggs.
Add sugar, baking powder, and chocolate, process until smooth.
Pour batter into a 9" or 8X8" non stick pan.
Bake for 45 minutes.

*You can use regular chips instead of carob chips.

*I make these bars with 3/4 cup brown rice syrup or 1 cup agave nectar instead of sugar. Brown rice syrup is a gentler sweetener that you can find at a health food store or the "healthy" section of your local grocery store. It has a 'butterscotch' kind of taste.
