Dear Friends, It is a perfect Southern California day, sunny and warm. Spring is scenting the air. Two weeks ago, however, I was snowed in at Big Bear, CA, a ski resort town. I am not the sort to hurtle down a hill with sticks attached to my feet. At ski resorts, I sip hot chocolate by the fireplace. I pursued those activities with enthusiasm while in Big Bear. I was also writing feverishly about spirits I've met and from whom I've learned so much. While writing, I could see little kids on their saucers and sleds, bundled up so that they could hardly move. The dining room table where I wrote was at the bottom of the hill. My sunken patio became the irresistible finishing line for the sledding contests. Thunk, thud, bang, crash punctuated my writing days. A teenager even had the nerve to throw a snowball ball at me when I opened the patio door to be sure that a young sledder hadn't been injured. I was in my nightgown at the time. Life was there all around me. Parents helping children walk through the snow. Kids making angels in fresh snow after a storm. Teenagers throwing snowballs at each other in bizarre courtship. Photos being taken constantly. Memories were being made, relationships strengthened by love, laughter and white stuff from the sky. Life. That is what loved ones in spirit want to talk about. They share memories of vacations, fun activities, times of laughter . . . and tears. The sharing of life doesn't end with death. Sometimes the spirits show up in the photos we take to commemorate fun times or special occasions. Their appearance may be in the form of orbs, mist or streaks of light. This month's article discusses this phenomenon. In about two weeks, I'll be on my way to New York, my hometown. All spirit circles are sold out, but there are still a few private sessions available. If you or someone you know would like an appointment while I'm in Manhattan from April 5-10 or on Long Island from April 11 - 14, email us at info@HollisterRand.com for more information. There are still a few in person sessions in Los Angeles available toward the end of April. In May I'll be in Las Vegas. All spirit circles are booked in Las Vegas, but there are private sessions available while I'm in town.
Many thanks to all of you who visited the new website and entered the drawing for the half hour phone session. Mindy S. from Santa Ana was the person randomly selected. Thanks, too, for those of you who have joined the Hollister Rand Community on Facebook. Fans Diane M., Autumn M., Vicki R., Kathy P., Patton H., Heather S. were chosen randomly and will receive event tickets, gemstone hearts or Many Doors CDs. While writing to you, I'm enjoying a hot fudge sundae. For some reason, the combination reminds me of snow and sun, joy and grief, life and death. We're all living in the midst of it all. It helps to remember that those we love in spirit continue to share in our lives. All of it, all of the time. May the love that never dies keep you warm in the snow and bring new growth to you in the spring,

Spirit Snapshots
By Hollister Rand
While I was dancing at a friend's birthday bash, friends took photos. In them, it looked as though I was making an appearance on The Lawrence Welk Show. I was completely surrounded by what appeared to be bubbles. I had no doubt that the "bubbles," often referred to as "orbs," represented the presence of my mother in spirit. She loved a good party and knew a number of the people at the celebration.
Capturing the presence of spirits in photographs is nothing new. Years ago, I studied spirit photographs reproduced in long out-of-print books. The spirits looked like old fashioned daguerreotypes or in some cases, gauzy manifestations of fuzzy faces.
Orbs, on the other hand are circular, bubble-like appearances which can look clear. Some orbs seem to have a "man in the moon" appearance. When the images are enlarged, a face may become visible.
This was the case when a friend and I took a much closer look at the orbs which seemed to fly out of his antique armoire. Every time he tried to take a photo of the armoire so that he could sell it on Craigslist, the photograph was marred by bubbles in flight. Upon further examination, there was indeed a face in the orbs. In a series of the orbs it looked as though the same person was turning his face away from the camera. The orbs were almost like stop motion photography.
After looking at the orbs, I had a sense that the man in the photos was attached to the energy of an item being stored inside the cabinet. When I asked my friend about that possibility, he mentioned an antique bracelet that he had recently brought back from New York. My friend and I felt inspired to communicate with this particular spirit. During a small spirit circle with friends, we did just that.
In another instance, orbs appeared in photographs taken while a friend's mother was removing items from the car in which his sister had died. All of us who viewed that photo felt that my friend's sister was surrounding her mother with her loving presence.
Sometimes the spirits are moving so quickly that the orbs appear as arcs of light streaking across the photograph. In other cases, a mist will appear in photos taken indoors where no smoke or fog was visible before the photo was taken. In one photograph sent to me by a client, a mist-like presence covers the face of her sister while she is sleeping. She and her sister had no doubt that it was their mother kissing her goodnight.
When a photograph you've taken seems marred by sun spots or random streaks, take another look. It may be that those you love in spirit want to have their picture taken with you.
For those who are on Facebook, please post your "spirit snapshots" and share your experiences with the rest of the Hollister Rand Community.
